I am going to be in Houston for the holidays and I am going to go to the new Galveston Pier Friday morning. Depending on how I do I may stay there or go to my wading spot in Christmas Bay. It is supposed to be a high of 71 so I was wondering, would it be too cold to fish without waders? And I usually get slot reds in Christmas Bay during the spring and summer and some flounder but will it be too cold to fish inshore or should I just stick to the pier?

def not too cold for inshore... it's just getting good. Fishing for big trout and winter reds on shallow mud bottoms is just starting. Xmas should be good if you know where you are going... there are still a lot of birds working... but there should be some fish on the shoreline.

have fun

Alright thanks. I guess I can use the money I was going to spend on waders on something else. Maybe I'll still buy them but not sure. I have a good spot in Christmas so I guess I'll try that in the afternoon.

How do you get to Christmas Bay and is it accessible from the bank. I do not have a boat.

from Houston - south on 288 to Lake Jackson, follow signs to Surfside Beach FM332, right left on blue water hwy FM 257. Go about 10 miles, look for public boat ramp on left. Yes it's accessible, not great at low tide or above 10mph winds. Normally see people wading near the PVC pipes that mark a channel to Cold Pass. I will use the Yak there cuz it's a huge bay, have not waded in that area

without a boat, you'll have more options to wade or fish the pass at Rollover. Understand they're doing real well at Seawolf as well. I plan to take the yak down to Tx City tomorrow to fish the mosquito island area.

Good luck to you

seawolf park is not really great but if you go there there is a pecking order, so wait until a spot opens and ask the cook inside where to throw in
