I have fishing with artificials today(16 Nov.2011)at ROLLOVER PASS from 11:30am to 12:30pm catching one flounder 18 inch and one 15,5inch. Having already the limit i stop fishing for flounder,i have eating my lunch and spend some time at MISS NANCY'S BAIT SHOP.

At 3:30 i start to fish again looking for some speckled trout.Until 4:00pm i was catching one speckled trout 20 inch.Because the water moving very slow i have no another trout attack ,i stop fishing and start to drive back to Houston.

I was surprise to have just 3 fish attack(2 flounder and one speckled trout),but another fishermans tell me the fishing was good in the morning....

That's not a bad trip Mr Jean .
I've made many a trip over there with nothing to show .
Any day fishing and enjoying the outdoor's is better than not going .

Have any of you heard anything about Rollover being permanently closed by the US Corp of Engineers? From what I gather, there is a lot of work involved in clearing the ICW from the sand that is brought in by the pass. The ACE wants to let the pass fill in with sand and just close it down. If this is true, seems like the death knell for Ghilchrist and for one of our best fishing holes.

Im in my 40's....and my first trip there was when I was 11. Been fishing there ever since, be sad to see it go away.

The death knell for Ghilchrist is the disappearance of the beach DUE to Rollover taking sand from beachfront and depositing it in the bay - look for aerials from the time before Rollover opened to present, you will see marked loss of beach over the years, and add a hurricane or two more and Ghilchrist will be no more than a sand spit

Rollover was built ONLY to provide a fishing club a place to fish -- the consequences to east bay and the beachfront have been severe -

Naturally it probably never will close, it scours badly , which was why it was lined years ago -- the conversations have been to FILL it not let nature take its course.

Its in planning stages now

Maybe building some jetty can solve the erosion beach problem, not to close ROLLOVER PASS .....

I think closure is pretty much a done deal, the money is just not there to maintain ICW dredge and Rollover - certainly it will hurt local fishing, but fishermen are always last on the list in such stuff --
