I find the crappie forum so much more laid back than the bass forum. Very little trash talk and tons of help so here's another question for the knowledgeable. How do crappie react to post front conditions? I know that cold temps and bluebird skies will give bass lockjaw. Is this the case with crappie?

usually yes and if it was spring I would say for sure the front would give them lock jaw. But, now that its fall I think it helps them move better into the creeks, and there for makes the fishing better in my opinion.

Only problem is with the lake low water levels, not too many creeks got any water in them.

Cold front and fresh rain water added to the lake usually don't spell conditons for a good trip.
It will usually take them a few days to get happy again.
I've noticed the Bass forum is different from the Crappie forum. I figured it was because they are fishing tournaments against each other and were less likely to share good information.
On the Crappie forum usually we are just out to have a good day on the water and will help each other as much as we can. Jig colors, depth of water, etc.....

Can you still catch them under the bridges after a cold front?

usually sucks after a front until the winds shift back out of the south and you get some cloud cover . Clear blue skies with either a east wind and no clouds not good. On lakes infested with hungry crappie , they can still do ok, because there are always a few aggressive fish when over a school containing hundreds, but on a so- so lake, its likely you will struggle .Also you can pretty much take it to the bank, if the bass arent biting, neither are the crappie.

thanks for the info. What do the crappie do in the winter months dec-feb? Where do they go? I heard the crappie of Fork move to the humps by the dam.

I have found that normally during the fall they bite even after a cold front. They might not be as hungry as a prefront day but you can still do good. Today & yesterday they bit great!

Lately (today included) I have found that the worse the front the better the fishing has been. Pressure was high all day today but the fish were going crazy. The high pressure that follows the fronts seem to push the fish closer to the structure(where I'm fishin).

From what i am seeing on other posts, Anthony, you may be on to something! A friend caught some saddle blankets at the brickyard, along with a boatload of throwbacks, but he said they were hitting steady and strong all afternoon!
