Was given a Penn Battle 6000 reel and want to use it for some pompano fishing this spring. Questions is what would be the best braid line to put on it. My other has mono but I want to use braid on this new one. Any input is greatly apprciated.

all the new braids are good and in my opinion have very little differences. my only suggestion is don't fish anything less than 30lb as the smaller braid likes to wind knot on spinning reels. other people can do the "which braid is better" argument wink

I agree they are all pretty good. And as far as the 30+ comment...hehe... I took a ultra-light with 10# braid to the jerry for a bait rod and sheephead. Wouldn't do that again. I think I ended up having to cut it off the spool.

If you fish with spinning reels you don't need 30lb.braid to catch big fish.
I have fishing with spinning reels (DAIWA WHISKER SS TOURNAMENT 700,1300) and FIRELINE SMOKE 4LB. for over 10 years and never have wind knot. You must spool very tight the line on the spool and oped and close the bail manual,so you don't have wind knot.

Sorry, but 10lb.braid for me is not ultra-lite fishing.

I use PowerPro 20 lb braid on my citicas and curados. No issues with the wind. Of course these reels are baitcasters and not spinning.

The 30# comment is valid. Most are about the same diameter as 12# mono. Go to the store and run them through your fingers. They are not all the same. There are a few brands that are much smoother through the guides than the others. When you consider them side by side, you will understand what I mean. Pricing is never consistent, so find the deal that works for you. If you are going to be casting and retreiving, smoothness should definitely be a consideration, especially on a spinning reel.

I have a 3000 Stradic that I use for jigs/grubs/touts in shallow water, and I have 30# braid on it. Handles just fine. Use a good fluoro leader, carefully tied, and you should be good to go.
