Are they worth getting on a new truck? All I'd ever tow is my 20' bass boat. I font even know how they work.

if you have brakes on the boat trailer they are probably surge ,so the electronic brake control would not work with your boat, but if you see a rv or utility trailer in your future the controler is a must have IMO

I love having the Integrated trailer brakes on my truck. I pull several trailers with brakes and I hated having the controller hanging down under the dash on my last truck.

Slight correction, you can use electric brake controllers with a surge-brake setup, just have to buy an electric/hydraulic actuator to bypass the surge system, a breakway battery, and a few other bits and pieces. Looking at about $600-700 for all that ($550 for just the actuator), if your surge brakes are working, wouldn't worry about it for now though.
