My coworker is going to the coast this weekend and is staying at channel view. There is a pier there and he was wandering what would be the best setup for catching eater size reds and trout. We were thinking live shrimp and a popper or going bottom. Which would you saltwater veterans think is the best way at attacking this. He is also thinking about maybe trying the surf out.. What ya think?

I'm going to channell view this weekend sun- thursday also I would love any input on that same subject,I hoping for some flouder or reds I've always wanted to fish that pier but never stayed ther before, like the idea of going out your back door and being right in the channel so you can fish off the pier no matter which way tide is going in or out. That current is so strong when fishing the jetty, hoping to set baits right on there heads and say open wide!

Channel view pier under the lights can be fantastic wait for the outgoing tide and shrimp and a poping cork. or a jig head ane gulp shrimp in new penny should work just fine!
