I had to travel to the inlaws and since the weatherman was predicting gale force winds I decided to leave the boat behind and give bank fishing a try. I must admit my bank fishing gear is lacking...so I popped two of my Abu Garcia 6500c3s of the 7' ugly sticks and took the one channel combo I have that breaks down. On the way down I bought an 8' two piece Eagleclaw CatClaw bait casting rods and a bank rod holder. It worked well I just needed about 3 more of them.

This is a picture of the first spot I drove too...it looked great on the map.

The second spot wasn't much better:

I actually ended up fishing around the bend and caught several channels...and got one good run on the clicker.

I finish ed the day at Hank's Creek. I caught a few more channels but no big fish. I started talking to the park attendant and when he complained about the lack of big fish I told him about his many of us in North Texas release fish over 10# and showed him so photos of some big fish..before I showed him these photos he thought a 10# fish was a big fish...nonetheless he thought I was crazy when he saw the fish that I have released.

At any rate, with all the driving I did I could of going to Livingston...maybe I will try that next time.

That is why CPR is a Good thing. Catch Photograph Release. It makes a difference. Many folks don't understand and they are not breaking the law it is all within their right to take big fish home. Just makes a difference if you don't.

Not many folks fish just for the big ones around here, but they are there!
Shad are hard to come by at times, at least for me.
As most of Texas we need rain and more rain.
Each time I go out I see new dry land!
Next time your this way Brian, give me a call. We can go out and catch a few or at least maybe I can point you in the right direction.

Sounds good Jim. I brought some iced down shad from up here but I forgot my dead red...and two day old shad just ain't the same without dead red. I was really trying some wild cards fishing up in the shallow water...but it didn't seem to pay off.

It just seems really weird to see southeast Texas in a worse drought than North Texas. That place is usually the mud and fire ant capitol of the world.
