From Texas Parks and Wildlife Inland Fisheries Mathis District Facebook Page(Oct 25-27):
Electrofished a 7.25 lbs bass last night from Choke Canyon Reservoir. Going back tonight and tomorrow night to finish the survey. Everything is looking great so far.
Caught, weighed, measured, and released 357 bass last night. They ranged from 2" to 9 lbs. Best five weighed in at 40 lbs. Outside edge of vegetation with timber was where we caught the big girls.
Finished the Choke Canyon Electrofishing survey last night. Caught, measured, and weighed 642 largemouth bass in two hours of shocking for a catch rate of 321 per hour. Not quite as high as last year but the second highest largemouth bass catch rate for the reservoir. Submersed vegetation with timber was the key to finding bass. This pattern was repeated all three nights and from 4 Fingers upstream to Bo Derek Creek. Good luck!

Looks like you need some electrofishing techniques to get bit!

Looks like you need some electrofishing techniques to get bit! Is there a way to electrify the Alabama Rig for this purpose?

Actually Bo Derek creek is way up the Frio River past the Daughtrey boat ramp. I would imagine it is very low up their now. This is upriver from the windmill that is in the lake for another reference. The major creek just up from 99 is Elm Creek. I have only seen Bo Derek creek named on one map. Most just don't name it. I have not fished up that way in years.

Hmm? Interesting. I thought Bo derek creek was right past 99 bridge on the left. Kinda ran parallel with the hwy. So that is Elm then. Learn something new every day.

I read a post years ago on Bo Derek creek and how it got it's name. Anyone have a guess? See if it matches what I read.

Bo Derek was named for all the 10's that were caught in it. The first time I heard it was from the young pro Jerry Dunn.

That's exactly what I read. I've never fished that far up and I would suppose it's hard to get to and pretty stagnant with the lack of water flow right now. I'll be out next Thursday fishing grass edges with trees. Got 14 a couple of weeks ago fishing the grassline with a chatterbait and T-rigged Senko.

I used to fish Jerry`s jackpot tourneys on Choke years ago. That is where I heard the name as well.

And yes, I would imagine the water is very low at the moment.

Been to BO many times. I have had only one trip that I would consider good. Never caught a 10 from there either. I will say this when the lake is full it is worth checking out. Fished last Thursday eve, Friday,Saturday only caught 4 bass. That is not good. Fished points, grass, tank dams. I guess I saw at least 10 snakes and 4 gators. Lets hope this pattern changes soon.

Fished Sunday caught 8 fish, flipping trees in the middle of the drains. fish where in different depth or seemed like location was more important, middle of the drains and was getting smack in the middle of the trees, not around it or beside it, right in the top and let it drop.

Fished Choke on Thursday with BIL and got 10 total. Only one of any size (6lb 13oz) with the rest between 2 and 3 pounds. Two on chatterbait (including largest) with the rest on T-rig senko or brush hog. Found them about 5 feet off grass line or on brush/trees near grass.
