Is there enough water in there to fish in. I hear the north end is all dried up. I hope to come back sometime this fall and fish it a bit. That's my old home lake. Live 2 miles away for 30+ years. Caught some 3.5#ers on it back then.

Mack, I'll bring my boat & meet you there if you'll show me around. Bass fished the lake once 30 years ago. Sure would like to see someone catch a 3.5#er.

It's been a long time since I caught those but I believe there are some bigguns still in there. The pictures from the barge by the dam show some close to 3# the last time I was there. That's where I would start then go north to standing timber.

if any of you can comment on this, please do. about 15-20 years ago the crappie always came in the cove at Winnsboro with the log cabin and the small island (west side of lake just north of dam)...every winter, huge crappie, people would line the banks wearing em out. Does anybody know what happened? Why did the baitfish stop coming in the cove? And are there still a bunch of them big crappie in Winnsboro? I've wondered this for a long time.

They were still coming up in there 4-5 years ago, but I haven't noticed it as much lately. It usually happened in January, after a couple warm days and night. The shad would rush to the back of that cove and the crappie would follow them in. I'm sure they still do, but it is all a matter of timing with the right weather. Normally, if they are on there will be people all over the place. If the people are not there, you can still drive around the roads and watch the water for the shad slapping. If you see the shad, then it always worth running a jig in there to see.

I remember it used to last a couple of months - cold months. My granddad lived in Winnsboro, and my dad grew up there, and we'd always catch slabs in that cove during duck season and in January. I will have to go back and check on it sometime in the next couple of months and see if I can't find them. Wished I lived closer.
