I am guessing you are talking about sandy lake and George Bush. That is the elm fork of the trinity river, and it holds pretty good fish. I have most luck on catfish, whites, and a few lmb. I fish this river, but I don't fish at the sandy lake area very much. I paddle from the dam to McCinnish occasionally.

Thats McCinnish park at Sandy Lake rd. I think he is taking about Lewisville lake dam to Sandy Lake rd. I never heard any reports on that area but I've wanted to try it. There are several flood control lakes up in there and I want to explore them.

I live close by and canoe there all the time. Good place to canoe, but fishing is not good. The river is pretty good for catfish sometimes, but that is about it. You can catch some sandies in the spring in the running water below the dam. I have also fished the lakes you mentioned with out any luck. Sometimes I go to Lewisville dam and fish the Trinity. That area is only open on Fri, Sat, and Sun and cost $5-but you can catch fish.

I have made both runs. Lewisville dam to McCinish. And Below Carollton Dam to the pipeline. Fishing is pretty good, you just have to know what to fish for, and when.

The flood control lake at 190/161/Luna/Beltway are a good access point for the lower half.

Caoe Man. The land is only open on Fri, Sat, Sunday, but the river never closes. It is always open.

I've never had any luck in that section of the river but much better luck in the Denton Creek side.

Going upstream, you'll run into Denten Creek about 300 yds from the parking lot. Follow it for about another 400 yds and you'll see a channel on the right side.

The channel leads to a large open area. That's where I usually fish. LMB, sandbass, catfish and hybrids. Lots of gars and carps in there too but haven't landed one yet.

I start from Sandy Lake. It's a short paddle from there.

The Denton Creek area is fantastic to paddle. It's covered with trees. Like being in a Tarzan set.

Never had any luck fishing the river or creeks but the large open pond is good.

I see a lot of limblines so someone must be catching catfish.

I paddled from sandy lake up to I35 a couple of months ago. Really nice view and calming experience but I only caught 2 small sandies and a small hybrid. After the lack of fish I decided I would not try it again but I think I might have to check out those lakes now haha.

Ok I took this advice and I had better luck than the previous time I fished this area. Caught 4 good size whites along the banks of that large open area and 2 spotts in the channel leading to the open area. Is that a gravel pit? It was 25+ feet in the middle.

There were shad jumping all over the area the entire time I was there but I wasn't really sure how to fish it. I caught all of my fish on a 3" sassy shad but since I was there for 6 hours and only caught 6 fish I think I was doing something wrong. I've only fished for LMB and cats my whole life and this white/hybrid stuff is much different. I've also fished from the bank my whole life. I bought a kayak in June and I love it, but its really not producing any more fish for me than I was getting from the bank.

Any thoughts on techniques/lures I could use in this area because I did really like the area?

Yes, I used to put in at LLELA (LAke lewisville environmental learning area, and yak down to sandy Lake (McCinnish Park). You can also access at Business 121 and Hebron.

There are a few gravel pits along the way, you can easily find them on google earth. The one at the mouth of Denton creek is a pretty good one, obsessive. I usually use small white gulps with roadrunner heads, when I'm not fishing live bait.

If you stay on the elm fork going up from Sandy Lake, that big concrete gate is the city of dallas drinking water entrance. When they are pulling water, the trash will really pile up in the area, and there will be fish under that trash. That river is so trash ridden now, I hardly fish it anymore.

If the bait store on Sandy Lake is still open, go inside and look at the pics.

They meet up just north of sandy lake rd, probably 200 yards or so from the boat ramp(if you can call it that, its pretty small)

BTW, the stock LLELA with trout in a few weeks. It is only open on friday, saturday, and sunday.

The only species that I would rate as an A fishery is carp. It used to have a good flathead population, but that was wrecked recently, IMO.
