I need help with my jug lines. I am using a 2' noodle and a 5/0 Eagle claw Lazer sharp circle hook. I am fishing with 2 hooks and a 4oz ball weight per jug. I have 35 jugs and fishing all kinds of depths from 6' to 20'. I am using fresh caught shad from 1" to 3". Also using the heads or all the shad.

I check my jugs every hour and all my bait is gone. In two days caught two fish. I am fishing from 8am to 5pm. I would appreciate any help so tired of not catching fish. I was fishing eagle mountain lake.

put the juggs away and break out the rod n reels????

Nothin wrong with jugs. Especially if you are after box fish. As far as your bait getting stolen, I'm not real sure. When you way 1"-3" shad, is that the size of the chunk or size of the whole shad?

Both cut and whole shad, tried it all. I even threw out soured wheat

As I understand it, soured wheat won't do much for blue cats. 5/0 hooks are a little small, but you should still get some hookups. Hmm. Not sure.

Could be smaller cats picking your baits off, I've never had superb success with jugs or at least to where the trouble was worth it

Try changing up the hook us to a larger hook and sharpen the hook its self. Also scale the shad. Also try R&R some buffalo or carp, chuck that stuff up with out the scales and put it on the hook

You need to get you some bait, 1" to 3" shad are too small

You need to catch 6" - 18" shad then cut them and fish, a 6" shad is small, fillet it from down by the tail and up through the gut pocket, but don't cut the fillets off, just do that on one side, cut the tail off run a 6'0 - 8'0 circle hook through the bottom ob it's jaw and out the top between it's nose and eyes, your bait is too small and you are atracting really small fish, get some real bait in the water and see if you don' catch some, if they are 8" shad cut the tail off and cut them in 2 pieces, 10" 3 pieces

try moving the bait up the line a little. maybe to 2-3', then higher. i've known people around here to put bait just below the surface of the water. you won't always get a hookset on a jugline.

Catching the shad is usually the hard part. I run the hook through the mouth, out the side of the head, pull the eye of the hook into the mouth, turn the hook and go all the way through the bait and out the other side. Make sure you don't have a scale on the point of the hook. Other than that... you just gotta be fishing where the fish are.

Forgot to mention.... throwing out sour grain around lines calls in the bait stealers in my opinion.
