We will try to give a play by play while out in the wind tomorrow. We Tried to fish but ended up running the fire department out in the lake to rescue some stranded fishermen...we did get out for an hour and got 15 box fish at dark
Edited by Ms. Salsa (11/12/1103:13 PM) Edit Reason: Changed
Ok, lets get this post started today- had an amazing breakast at Shoestring Farm (bed and breakfast for fisherman) and then off to the "Atlantic Ocean" Waves are solid 4 footers and building. We have caught a 3, 8 and a 12 so far.
How are you two dressed to handle this wind? It is not that cold but chilly, this wind must make it brutal. I can dress for cold but the wind adds a twist to it.
Academy's H2O suit and Michaels 100mph bass pro suit with layers. It's brutal wind but we are warm and having a blast. We are catching fish about every 2 to 4 minutes. I'm getting slime on my iPhone! Just caught 3 more blues with the biggest about 16.
Caught two 5s and I missed another good one.. Michaels bringing in another one right now... Let's see.... It's a......,........... Another 5 pounder... Lots of box fish... Even tho were not keeping any today... Were in a good spot now hoping to catch some bigger ones...

I love staying on the boat! Nothing like waking up to a screamin clicker! Hope ya brought your sleeping bags! I got a feelin your gonna catch a PIG tonight....GOODLUCK!

We fish out of a 24 ft console and yeah we don't mind fishing in the wind just as long as the fish are biting.

can you guys give me any tips on where to fish there i got a boat been the 4 times stay all day olny cought one fish please help
In tawk, cats are fairly easy to come by. My sure fire fishing when we take my grandfather out, is to put in at holiday, and run to the spillway. Pull 20 feet off the spillway, anywhere along the rocks really, and drop some chicken livers. I used a cork friday to keep it drifting near the rocks, about 6 feet down, worked great.

Ms. Salsa, if Michael gets another fish on that you don't think he can handle, just reach up there and cut his line, no need to put that kind of stress on the poor feller!!!

Well... Here's the totals from our overnight stay on the best catfishing lake around! Not to mention out favorite place to fish! Ok... Michael lost the big one around 730pm.. After that.... We didn't not even get a bite all night!!! And just FYI Michaels phone is dead .. So he can't receive text... Which is probably driving nuts.. Oh and did I see it was Larry"s Birthday??? Happy Birthday to our dear friend... ( we are still fishing... Just got our first bite)
Michael jus caught the first fish of the day... It was a one pounder.. With that said we are loading the boat on the trailer and headed back home! Had a blast!
kudos to you both - i know how those all nighters/weekenders can go...but the quality time is absolutely worth it. get some rest and get at it again soon. we hope to be in the area some time next week.
Thank You Ms. Teri for the Happy Birthday, I was really glad to be able to have another one, even got out on the lake and caught a few fish today, had a great time, hope yall get rested up, it's only 4 days left then it's Friday again, my son and I are planning on going to Tawokoni next Sunday, hope to see yall there!!!
Good Luck to Ya!!!

whew...what a few crazy days on the water. I can't vouch for the other lakes, but the Gulf of Tawakoni was rock'in! Down by the two mile bridge I saw some solid 6ft'ers...large enough waves that we would lose sight of the horizon when we would go down in the trough of the wave. Crazy!
Fish bit really good on Sat. One of the best "teenage" bites i've been on. Don't know what the deal was but I could find small fish and I couldent find big fish. Plus, you only had about 3 or 4 places you could fish on the lake. That lake leaves almost no where to fish on a storng south wind.
As yall already know, I lost a good'en sat night at 7:45p.m....i'm still not talking about it as i'm in denial. It was MY fault. I coulden't turn the fish to get him in the net so I cranked the drag a 1/4 turn to turn his head and when I did he made one more run and there he/she went...I was sick. Not even going to try and guess the weight...but, by far the largest fish that WOULD have been landed on my boat.
After that, NOT one bite all night. Had baits in the water from 8p.m to 6am...and they were never touched. Sunday the fish were just off...so, we got the boat on the trailer and headed back to the metromess.
Shad are moving deeper now. I would tell you what the water temp was, but, I don't have my sonar right now...it's on it's way to Alabama to get fixed. Running the lake without knowing the depth was all too weird.

btw, the play by play was Ms. Salsa's idea...which now looking back was a pretty cool idea. My blackberry just dosn't do the things an ifone does.
I'm in the market for a 4GS ifone Verizon platform if anyone has connections...

we were on belton back a few weeks back and thank god we slowed up...but ran up onto a broken up concrete bridge. Nicked up the fiberglass a bit...but no holes.
I've resloved my boat is strictly a fishing boat, nothing pretty anymore.

Are you thinking that if you had left the drag where it was she wouldn't have broke off? Just trying to learn here. I bet its hard to be patient when its that close to the boat. I hope to have that problem soon.

Yeah, no excuses to break off 30# mono in open water. I had 200 yards of line on the abu 6500 and he could have taken all he wanted. I got greedy and didn't play him out. I should have not cranked down on the drag and woud have been fine. He would have made a few more runs then would have tired out on me. By tightening the drag I was trying to turn his head around so Teri could net him. When I did that, he made another run and when he ran, the drag was tighter and it broke the line. If the drag would have been set correctly, the drag would have slipped a little and not broke the line.
It's MY fault!

i've got a cool video clip of running the lake in the 5ft swells...when I get home I will load it to youtube.
After getting caught in a storm this summer in 9ft seas 40 miles off shore in my boat, Tawok's 5ft'ers aren't too bad.

Not too many stumps 9 miles offshore. A five foot drop onto a stout stump might do your boat in. Granted my experiences are coming from much smaller boats, but getting stuck on a stump in heavy wind isn't fun. Glad you two made home safe.

5ft waves, 2500lb boat coming down onto a solid oak tree stump = disaster. And, fire and rescue isn't up to par at Tawakoni...they were putting in to rescue 3 stranded fishermen on friday and there battery was dead at ramp.

Ya'll are nuts being out in that. I didn't even want to bank fish in those winds. As for the one that got away, we all have those. I have several. That's just fishin'. Learn a little and go take another shot at it.
