Hello all!

I am new to this fishing forum and slightly new to fishing but have instantly become passionate for the sport of fishing.

My question is, do any of you know any good spots in La Porte or League city? I usually go to piers around Sand Leon or Kemah but would like to try something new, looking for flounder and reds. Thanks!

Why don't you guys just drive a few minutes more and fish Galveston? As a pier fisherman, I've had some really good luck at Seawolf, 61st, and Galveston fishing pier (90th and Seawall), so I don't mess with any bay fishing.

However this is just me, others may have some really good luck fishing the Galveston Bay system.

hmmm, in san leon i heard the san leon park is good (never fished there before) but i believe its free. My uncle always goes there. I usually go fishing under the bridge by kemah, have had some decent luck there but mainly looking for a more private pier. Also, theres a pier on 18th street. i havent caught anything decent there yet, its only good for night fishing really because theres lights and i think its $6 a person.

I mentioned Galveston earlier, but forgot to mention the Texas City dike.

I'll see if I can get my buddy Ric involved in this thread. He fishes these areas and may have some ideas.

The dike is pretty close to the areas you already fish, about 10 minutes down the road. On the dike you can catch all the flounder you want, fish off the right side with live finger mullet, you will get stuck pretty often due to the roxks but thats where tue flounder hang out waiting to attack, all u have to do really is just cast not even 10-15 feet from where u stand and just let it sit..the finger mullet schools havent been plentiful lately so catching them urself is a hit or miss..i suggest buying some finger mullet from Boyds bait shop, there 6$ a dozen which is a gd price, get there early though because they go buy fast. Also buy a bag a fresh chad for the bull reds they have been biting gd on them lately. Ill actually be there tomorrow, i fish right at the sign that says road ends 1000ft, i drive a black 4 door silverado on chrome rims, stop by and say hello.

I'm planning on driving 5 hours to Galveston next week to try some fishing. Unfortunately, the weather forecast shows 30% chance of rain. I'm wondering if I should cancel my hotel reservations because I don't know if the fish will bite if it rains. Any suggestions on this would be helpful. Thank you.

I dont think the fish mind the rain, they're already wet.

Rain is good for fishin' provided it isn't because of a large cold front.

Electricity is another story, fish don't mind, but I do because I'm too conductive when wet.

way2slickrick, hopefully I am not asking too much since I never been there and will give a try in next couple of weeks. Is there any fee (parking...) to fishing on the Dike? Is it a long walk from parking place to where you fish, a lot of rock of flat road? Can fish on both side of the dike? May I know the exact loaction of the Boyds bait shop? What kind of fish you may catch, besides flouder, red fish, how about sand trout, whiting...?
Thanks a million.

As you head toward the dike, Boyds is before the levee. Get your bait, then head over the levee, the road is the dike. The cost is $5 per car on the weekend, not sure about the weekdays. There are no lights for fishing, but I think there are some lights at the boat ramps. Just drive on down the road until you see a place you feel comfortable fishing. You should fish on the right hand side, heading out from Boyds. The right hand side is like fishing off jetties, while the left hand side is more like a beach.

Red Fishermen, thanks a lot for your response. Very helpful. by Googling, I find this link:
http://galvestondailynews.com/blog/3886

It seems "They do not charge anything on Monday thorough Thursdays. $5.00 per car on FRIDAYS, SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS for the non-resident."

Not sure if there is any changes now.

Thanks again.

Just googled something else about the fee, can someone confirm this? Thanks.
"Q. What is the cost to get onto the dike?
A. During the summer months (first weekend in March to second weekend in October) there is a $5.00 charge per vehicle to enter the dike on weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and on holidays. It is free during the winter months and summer weekdays (Mondays through Thursdays — unless they are holidays).

Actually lately they havent been charging, not sure why, but the last 3 weekends ( on sundays) that I have gone they were not charging. You can fish on both sides, and you basically fish right where you park, I've had better succes fishing close to the 5 mile marker on the right side. I throw surf rods with a 5-8oz spider weight plus my bait as far as I can. Whenever your goin to rebait, make sure as soon as you get your weight to unstick you reel in as fast as you can and do not stop, keep your rod tip high, this will give you a better chance of not gettin stuck and havving to snap your line. Cut fresh dead shad and mullet have been really good baits for bull reds there lately and also live 4-7 mullet. I havent caught any sand trout since I haven't fished for anything there beside bull reds, but there are some gd sand trout and whiting caught there. The south winds however do put a significant dent in your catch ratio there, for me at least, I hardly see anyone catch anything there when the wind is blowing from the south. Also fising off the right side off the rocks is not as bad as it sounds when they say its kind of like fishing from the jetties, fishing from the rocks there is really easy so don't let it bring you down. The only thing I can say is just go and try it out, I will be there on sunday fishing right at the "road ends 100ft" sign, black 4-door chevy on chrome 22's , white pescado nation sticker on the back window.

Thanks a lot. I went there last saturday. Not bad, although got nothing but a founder against the wind. By looking around, it seemed a slow fishing day. I will try my luck later.

Best,

what were you using for bait? also there are some spots there better for flounder then others. Aslo the bait matters on certain days, some days they like live mud minnows and other days live finger mullet. Try and get a little of both next time you head out there and see what works, if nothing on both then move spots, you'll eventually find your sweet spot out there. This sunday was slow also, i was just fishing for bull reds and tried out some live cracked crab to see if they were any big black drums in there already, but no lock on either species, was a slow day yesterday for sure but... I did see ppl just slaying the flounder left and right.
