Hooked into what i think was a jack cravel, had a few of them swimming around the boat, and while retrieving a blue/white/pink peanutbutter, it just stopped and started going the other way. I know it wasnt a red, i have had a few big reds and this pulled like a freight train. I have a sage 4210 reel (on my custom 9wt xi3), and can put some serious drag on a fish, and it was maxed and still pealing line off. I finally stopped the fish after a 15 second run like this and could never make head way on it. it then proceeded to wrap me around a piling and i broke off my tippet. the fight lasted almost 10 minutes and wow do i ever want to hook one of those up again smile

I hooked into a 17lb jack in Fl. off the beaches while targeting kings with the 12wt. They are the hardest pullin fish in the salt barr none. Thanks for the report.

tell me about it. there was no way i could gain any traction on this fish, and i use a 9wt that i have been told handles more like a 10
