I like them when you want to fish spinnerbaits a little slower.

Feels kinda weird to fish a 5:1 reel after using 1 6:3:1 for a long period of time. I do like the muscle behind the 5:1!

Little change of subject here but anyone use a Team All Star crankin rod? Was thinkin bout getting a deep cranking setup and saw that they are on sale at academy for 40bucks which seems like a pretty good deal.

I use them for swim baits as well. And heavy heavy cover jigs for the torque.

Hype,

I remember when 5.0:1 was considered to be a "High Speed."

The "Burner" Reels have really come on in poplularity of late and the ultra low speeds such as a 3.8:1 which was a fad a few years ago has just about gone by the wayside.

Most anglers will find a 6.3:1 to be the best all around gearing for a Bass Reel.

My favorite Jerk bait reel now is the Calcutta 100B Which is a 5.8:1 Ratio. It is absolutely perfect for me with a Pointer 95 or a Rogue. Plus it gives you an adequate hold on the reel for all day "Jerking:". It will also handle most shallow to mid range cranks with ease.

But I also find it is fast enough to get a buzzbait up and running and is strong enough to handle most anything in the waters around here.

Most folks do not know the new CTE200's are a 6.0:1 Ratio compared to the 5.0:1 of the old CTE250 which I still use for Crankbaits and big Spinnerbaits.

Think a revo s 6.4:1 would be good enough for deep crankin or should I pony up the extra for a revo winch?

The Revos also come in the 7.1:1 and think they are the STX models. The winch is a 5:4:1. I have a Revo SX 6.4:1 on a 7'MH Vendetta. It's my Spec Killer. The SX-HS is a 7.1:1

Again, the Calcutta 100B or the 200B would be a much better Crank reel. For some reason the Round reel works better for me for jerk baits and crankbaits. It may be something in the torque. Either way, the Caluctta's are tanks and will really last forever. The balance of the reel leaves little notice of any extra weight for that fantastic forged aluminum frame and sideplates. The precision is just so much better in those reels./
