Loc: Lake Sam Rayburn
Reel um N Guide Service Owner Lynn Atkinson
Water Temp.65 Normal pool 164.40 Water Clarity 2 feet 11-10-11 Sam Rayburn is at 150 .83 ft and is still falling as they generate more electricity. Sam Rayburn has dropped to over 13 ft low.
The lake is 13.76 ft low and we are seeing a lot of sandbars and humps. There is a lot of timber above the waterline which makes it easy to see. With a lot of the humps and sand bars along with the timber and the grass that is coming up around all of this it looks like fishing paradise. This morning I made short run out to fish after the front pushed though last night. We got almost 1 inch of rain and the temperature was in the high 40s with a blue bird sky and winds blowing 15 mph with gust to 20. Didn’t sound like a fun day on the water to me. Water temperatures had dropped down to 65. Not the best day to fish but you don’t always get what you want. That’s fishing, so off we go to hunt for a bite. The water was rough but there were a few places to get out of the wind and fish for a few hours, see if anything had changed. It didn’t take long before the rod loaded up with the first keeper of the day with many more to come. These fish have started to fatten up for winter and the bite was great. The biggest one went 5 lbs with a bunch that were 2 to 3 lbs. Sit home if you want or get in on the fun. Behind every front there will be several days with some of the best weather Texas gets
Now with the water temperature down in the middle 60s we’ll start to see a lot more fish move up and get more active as we head into the fall season. There will be days the fish want plastic and days they want something to chase. We still have lots of lily pads and hydrilla to fish and both have been holding fish. Senko’s and flukes have been getting some action along with the Stanley Ribbits when they want to chase something. We have been throwing a few of the New Baby Ribbits and boy do they like them. Small Shad are everywhere and that’s what they are feeding on. A good color to start with when throwing spinner baits or crankbaits is shad color. Sometimes it’s covering a lot of water in the fall to catch fish that can be loads of fun. We've been catching a few fish in 8 to 14 ft of water off points and creek channels on Stanley Football Jigs and Carolina rigs Baby brush hogs and old Monster worms. Try June bug and Plum/ Apple, both have been doing good. Work them slow or dead stick them. Good Luck
Remember the Sharelunker Program entries started on October 1 and run thru April 30th. If you haven’t heard, it encourages anglers who catch a 13 - pound- plus largemouth bass to lend or donate it to the TPWD for spawning purposes. There are some great benefits doing this and one of them is that the angler receives a fiberglass replica of the bass. There is a 24- hour pager at 1-888-784-0600 Check out the Program rules at their site along with the Benefits. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/visitorcenters/tffc/sharelunker/
Crappie; The Crappie fishing picked up last week as we stumbled across a few places holding some great fish. Getting out on cool fall days and having fun with your friends and family is the best. Grab the kids and friends then come out to enjoy a day on the water. Everyone has loved the new pontoon with the shade, changing room and the port-o-potty. We can handle up to 8 anglers.
Boat ramps at middle lake: Jackson Hill Marina cleaned their ramps this week and I have been using it. Cassell Boykin New Ramps will be closed Nov 15th till Dec 5th for repair. They are also going to work on extending the ramps from what I hear. Hopefully everything goes good there.
