Hello or I should learn to say hi'yall. I will be relocating from MN. to San Antonio in coming weeks because of a new job. Wife and I are looking forward to being a part of the community. Waiting when company wants me to come down. Meanwhile, I figure I would get plugged in via a fishing forum like I am in MN. Similar set up as this one. One of my questions is if my 16' Tracker Pro Team is sufficient to use? My son says I need a bigger boat because of the size of the resovoirs. I also think he wants me to leave the boat so he can use it. Any info./advice about Texas living that I would need to get used to would be appreciated.

The lakes around San Antonio are so low I dont know if a boat bigger than 16 feet can be launched or not.

If you need a excuse to by a bigger boat, I'm on your son's side. I would rather have more than less.

IMO the best all-around lake in these parts is Amistad. AND, the best all-around boat length is 20'-8". My Ranger is 18 ft, and I sure wish it was a couple of feet longer. The 'big water' is the main limitation. But, the way it is now, I'm grateful for what I've got. BTW it's y'all. Welcome, and let us know when you get here.

If you need a excuse to by a bigger boat, I'm on your son's side. I would rather have more than less. If you got the money find you sweet deal on a fairly new used bass boat. I would go 20 feet with at least a 225. If not I am sure your boat would be fine..

A future welcome to Central Texas. Been here many years. Lots of lakes to choose from. Alot depends on what you want to fish for and how far you want to travel. Give me a pm yell when you get here no matter what kind of boat you have and I'll help get you on the right lake....... But I can say now most lakes require a decent sized rig. I have an 18' with 150 hp. and needed all of it a few times.

I have a 12 ft (kayak) and I do just fine... Your 16 ft should be fine to start with. Then after you get here, you can decide for yourself whether or not you need more.

What a great opportunity to leave the boat there for your son, enhane the future of his fishing, take a kid fishing and all that good stff. Sounds like a great opportunity to get a new rig too. BTW it's Howdy Y'all!

What type of fishing?
If bass, you should catch a meeting of our small BASS affiliated club. We have two MN refugees (one from the twin cities and myself from a small SW farm). Spend a couple months as a non-boater on our various lakes before making a boat decision.
I don't miss the -26 below zero winters...

On your boat consideration, remember that living in San Antonio, you will want to zip down to the coast every few weeks for some trout and redfish.

ok, y'all. Thanks for the welcomes. I won't buy another boat right away. I think a different tow vehicle would be first. Been unemployed since '09. As far as species, my wife and I are all about the bass. Looking forward to catching some larger ones. Although my son would enjoy having the boat, his job during the summer has prevented him from fishing. I think he went twice. I will keep you informed when we will be San Antonians.

You will need to get behind the Illegal Aliens and let them get free medical, schooling for Illegal children, WIC ,etc. As a US Citizen you must let them go first, before a Legal Citizen can get help.........

The 16' will get the job done and there's a lot of people who have them, but when the wind gets howling (which in the summer is quite frequent) on some of the larger reservoirs here in the state, you'll sure wish you had a bigger boat.

We've been researching townhome rentals online in the Northwest and Northcentral areas. Anyone know about the Providence Estates, lakeside villas, or the Fredricksburg townhome communities?

bucketmouth and lady62bass will be in San Antonio by Friday the 25th or Saturday the 26th. We had our first snow fall here in the Twin Cities and I slipped and fell on our driveway. Ready to be in warmer temps.
