Any informational books you guys and girls could recommend about fishing, that you or someone you know has read. Specifically over freshwater fishing.

Read this forum. Depending on where and what you are fishing for you can get alot of good information. The guides on here post alot on their given lake. If I am at Hubbard I call Paul Rogers. If I am going to Tawakoni ask Matt Cartwright or just follow their post. Or just post and people are always happy to share on this sight.

Wonderful! A fisherman who can read. The following are books I have found useful and entertaining. You may have to search for them, as some are out of print. Try searching for them on the net. The best bet is Amazon.com .

Catching Panfish. The Freshwater Angular Series.2006. Creative Publishing International, Inc. MN www.creativepub.com

Freshwater Fishing Secrets, Jay Michael Strangis, 1990. North American Fishing Club, MN

Freshwater Fishing Secrets II, Steve Pennaz, 1992. North American Fishing Club, MN

America's Favorite Fishing, F. Phillip Rice,1964. Harper and Rowe, NY

The Art of Freshwater Fishing, Dick Sternberg, 1982, Publication Arts Inc., MN

If you like to fish for black bass, the BASS organization publishes a series called the Ultimate Bass Fishing Library which will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about bass fishing. Volumes are available from Amazon.com

In addition, the In-Fisherman organization publishes many books and magazines at in-fisherman.com. Their books tend to tell you how to catch Yankee fish which we do not have down here, but they are informative.

An absolute must read is Freshwater Fishes of Texas by Earl Chilton II, Ph.D. that provides illustrated accounts of 46 species. A companion poster is also available. It can be ordered at the TPWD website. There is nothing worse than a fisherman who does not know the correct name of the fish he catches.

I hope you find this information helpful.

"Sowbelly" is a book about the joys and agonies of tournament fishing.

Every four years or so, TP&W is required to submit a report to some federal agency a detailed report on all major Texas lakes. These are called "survey reports." They detail the information gleaned from gill netting, electrofishing, etc, and discuss the state of the fishery and the fishery management plan, including the stocking history. These typically run 25-30 pages in length. They can be accessed from the TP&W website. I have found them helpful.

Thank you for the clarification. I ordered the book.

I also find the survey reports helpful.

"Sowbelly" is not about tournament fishing. "Sowbelly" is a book about the fanatical pursuit by some bass anglers (specifically in California) of catching the next world record bass. Its an awesome book.

Ok, ok, you got me on that one. Actually, I don't read stuff about largemouth fishing. Now, if you're interested in a detailed overview of tackle, techniques, etc. relative to striped bass angling, it would be hard to beat The Complete Book of Striped Bass Fishing by Nick Karas (368 pages.)

Spoonplugging for Lunkers by Buck Perry. One of the first to understand depth and he develped a method to find fish. His favorite saying was "the fish are deep, shallow, or somewhere in between." His method for finding fish was revolutionary at the time. The book is old, but I promise you will be impressed.

The one other is Lunker Love Nightcrawlers by Fishing Facts Magazine. Also an old book but is one of the first like Buck Perry to delve into structure fishing.

They may be hard to find, but if you really want serious fish knowledge that still applies today those are the ones.

Good Luck and Tight Lines!
