What type of programmer chip do you use in yalls trucks? Iv got a 2001 Chevy 1500 z71 with the 5.3l engine and it gets like 12-13mpg around town and idk what it gets towing cause I haven't towed my boat with it yet. I wanted to know what is the best for the money. Thanks Jake

I have a Gryphon in my 97 and will eventually get one for my 06. It is specific to Ford. What you want to look for in a programmer is make sure it will take custom tunes, that way when you make modifications down the road the tunes can be rewritten for the mod. Don't expect a whole lot of gas mileage improvement either, I only saw a 1.5-2 mpg increase at best and that is nursing it around, some may not be able to justify the expence. However the power increase and the fun factor made it worth it to me.

Black bear tunning

Those are the first 2 that come to mind. I had a black bear tune in my 02 gmc sierra 2500HD gasser. As noted, mileage is not going to be drasticly improved, I went from 11mpg for 34gals to 12-13mpg for a full tank. Your biggest improvement is going to come from the driver. A great tool is to create a fuely account. You can compair your mileage to others with like vehicles

Best bang for the buck will be a custom tune. Like BlackBear. But whatever option you go with, you will need to address the transmission. At least upgrade to the vette servo and a shift kit.

Get a performance tune from Nelson Performance in San Antonio, it did wonders for my truck. I haven't check the gas mileage yet though.

Custom tune will be the best.

The DiabloSport will come with canned tunes. It will allow you to install custom tunes with it as the interface.

I would go with a flash tuner vs. one that is spliced into your electrical system. When you invade the electrical system of your vehicle you are asking for problems down the road like throwing codes and your check engine light coming on. A flash tuner just plugs into the OBD port under the dash and retunes your computer, then you unplug it. That is my personal opinion. Check out Super chips they have some really good tunes.

that's how black bear and hp tunners work. Plugs in and take off. And the ones that have been mentioned where you are replacing hard parts. Its actualy verry easy; remove stock computer, reinstall it. Easy
