Maybe I am missing something here.

I went to home depot and got the blue screws and drill bit, with anchors. However I can not seem to get it to work with my 18v Dewalt.

I need to hang a garden hose reel onto the side of the house next to the water spicket.

Any ideas?

More RPMs. Need a corded drill or hammer drill for the pilot hole. 2cents

Try drilling into the mortar. It should hold if the mortar is up to specs. It sounds like the brick are hard. A hammer drill will do the job.

tapcons do not work well in brick, get some redhead anchors. these expand behind the brick and will hold well, just be careful to tighten to pretty snug not real tight, brick is brittle and will crack. if done right these will last for a long time.

this style is best for brick.

You can get them at home depot, just drill into the mortar line, get a mason bit the same size as the redhead.

don't use a hammer drill on brick, a regular 3/8 or 1/2" will work with a masonry bit, hammer will break out the back and make it too thin.
lowes carries the redheads as does home depot.
might be a different brand name but look for the ones like in the pic

Brick is very hard. When you drill into it have someone spray a litte water in it while you drill. Bits will burn up fast if you don't. Even carbide.
Like Hoppy said do not use a hammer drill.

drilling the mortor is easier but will not last, get a masonary bit, use a hammer drill and pilot hole drill for concrete screws.

drill into the bricks

Ok... got the anchors and bit.. How do I make a pilot hole? Everytime I try to start, the drill moves around on me.

Take a nail and put it on the spot you want to drill and tap the nail with a hammer.

this is a great system

take a nail & hammer it where you want the hole, a small indention will hold your bit in place
you got to stay on your drill
