My last boat was totaled so I was able to get a new one. Ended up finding one on ebay in Houston that only had 3 hours on it. I got a great deal on it and had money left over to buy a Minkota Talon and a few other toys.

Loved the video thanks. If you ever have an open seat and want company let me know. I have yet to visit this lake and have been meaning to for some time. Always nice to go with someone who has a lay of the land.

Nitro, I'll be there for about 9 days during Spring Break. Fishing is great then so maybe we can hook up then.

Do you guys have any suggestions on where to fish on Bastrop when the wind is blowing 15 MPH? It was a rough day on the lake. The only fish were caught in 13 feet of water near the scout camp.

If you don't like roughing it out in the wind, Lake Bastrop is no different than any other lake when it's windy. The wind generally blows from the south/southeast on Bastrop. That limits the areas that you can fish "out" of the wind. Mid Lake Cove is right across from the North Shove launch and is a superb place to fish. The other two places I would recommend would be Hot Water Flats at the outfall and the rocks at the dam. If the wind is blowing from the north, then fish just the other sides.

How does lake fish, I see on my navionics it has slot of ledges and old ponds it looks like So is it a deep lake or is there shallow structure also. I've read it also has grass which I'm assuming is hydrilla?..how thick is it? I've never been and wanting to spread out and try a few new lakes on my next 14 days off starting next week.

Thanks for the info, Razor. I don't mind toughing it out in the wind if I had any idea what I was doing. crazy

I am fairly new to fishing and would love any advice on what we could have done differently yesterday to boat some bass.

This lake is known for numbers of fish and not big fish. There are numerous guys on here that can give you insight on fishing this lake. Lots of guys drag Carolina rigs with success. Others flip soft plastics in the grass. I'm a crank bait fisherman. I fish grass lines and timber.

I love fishing structure on Bastrop...worms, c-rig, and the Biffle Hard Head. Just find a point or a big break and go at it. It wont take you long to find fish.

Thanks for the info guys. A few follow up questions. What is a "big break"? Also, where do you start on a point (deep or shallow)? I think I may be too aggressive and motor over the point where I should be casting.

Big breaks are where you see some of the steeper drops. Depending on the time of year on where whether to start deep or shallow. I'll look around first with my electronics to try to get an idea of where they are and then work from there. I personally tend to fish deeper on Bastrop because I'm not much of a grass fisherman and there is usually grass out to about 8 feet deep. I have a ton of video on Youtube for Bastrop if you want to check them out. Just search for Bastrop Fishing and Bass Colonel and they should come up.

That sounds great. I understand it is suppose to be a good winter lake due to the power plant on the lake. Have you fished it in the winter?

Yes, I've fished it a little in the winter but I havent fished it as much in the winter as I have in the Spring/Summer. I plan to be there this next weekend so I'll let you know how it goes. I spent Spring Break there 2 years ago and caught a ton of fish. Here is a video from the trip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBmjiXAyGs0&feature=channel_video_title

We were planning on camping at Bastrop this weekend but cancelled today due to the weather forecast for Sunday. I'll probably fish Gibbons on Saturday instead. If the weather is ok on Friday afternoon I'm taking off to fish Gibbons then as well.

BC, I went out to Bastrop yesterday, the water level is up considerably better than it has been, It's just about back to normal, just gauging from the dock on the South Shore.
