Ive bought several Abus off Ebay for absurdly low prices. A few needed cleaning like this one, I use baking soda and a stiff bristle toothbrush. All new bearings and drag washers, and your back in the throw!

Has anyone ever refinished a reel with KG Gun Kote? It was formulated to refinish firearms. It's applied with an airbrush then the part is baked at 300 degrees for 10 minutes and is so thin it doesn't interfere with closely fitted parts. It comes in many colors. There's also a color called Brushed Stainless that would be great for chrome parts that have oxidized or corroded. You clean the part to be sprayed with very fine emery paper or Scotchbrite. I've used it to refinish several pistols, and it's a great product. No, I don't work for KG.
