Have done this for years and thought I'd post it. Saute fresh sliced mushrooms in a small pan with a tbs. or two of butter and worchestershire sauce (4-5 tbs. or more.) Put these over your steak or on the side.

Put a little red wine with it and let it reduce. It's really good.

Perhaps best to reduce the wine beforehand, to avoid overcooking the mushrooms.

If you are doing your steaks on the grill, you can make a foil pouch and put your mushrooms and butter in there and cook them right next to the steaks. I do this all the time. It saves dirtying up another pan.

We like to cut up different bell peppers...red, yellow, orange...along with onions and mushrooms with olive oil and other seasonings. We wrap in foil with a few ice cubes and start on the grill before the steaks...very good...

I like to just put all those good things, mushrooms, peppers, onions, cherry tomatoes, yellow squash when it's in season, on a couple of skewers and cook 'em kabob style right next to the steaks. Olive oil, salt, pepper, chopped rosemary on 'em. Never had a complaint.

All of the above are good. Try it with olive oil and a little dash of Cavender's Greek seasoning. Really good.

i love a balsamic cream reduction with mushrooms poured all over my steak, man that's some good stuff.

anyone know of a good crab topping for steaks? i used to saute some garlic and green onion in some butter and add the crab then pour on steak, or make a cream sauce, add the crab then pour on the steak. any other ideas?

maybe a white wine, butter, and garlic reduced. add cream and crab. might work. it's pretty much what you already said, but with the wine. i sometimes make a sauce like this with clams instead and pour it over linguine.

I always let my steaks rest for about 5 min. before I serve them. After they sit for a couple of minutes throw the pan juices in with your mushrooms, butter and worchestershire sauce - the juices from a grilled steak adds a light smoky flavor that really enhances the flavor of the mushrooms.

Add some lemon or lime juice to those butter/worcestershire broiled mushrooms, too...but not too much. They need a little acidity. A dash of garlic salt and some black pepper too.

I think I'll give this a shot on the grill Tonight using the foil pouch.
