The current lake record for For White Crappie ... 3.19 Black Crappie ... 3.92 I posted this pic a few years back but wanted to show it off again. This was a white Crappie if I'm not mistaking and weighed almost 4#'s even. My wife caught it on a Rattle trap during a bass tournament. We stuck it in the livewell and broght it home, we lived on Lake Limestone at the time, weighed it, took a pic and tossed it into Lake Limestone. She didn't want to touch the fish....notice the latex gloves. Didn't even think about it maybe being a lake record till after the fact

That is a beautiful fish. Notice the tore up tail from putting in work. It's a safe bet that that ain't even the biggest in the lake... It's also a safe bet that it's in the 95th percentile though.

Like stated the scary part of that fish is it is a male. It's a large crappie and a supper large male crappie. Nothing to do but go catch it again. Thanks for sharing that cool pic.

Guy-- Sometimes it is better to lucky than good. I've been hearing about 3 lb crappie ever since I moved to E Texas in '82. I don't fish crappie full time, but I have spent a lot of time with a jig pole in my hand. I have a few 2.7 's and 2.8's digital , can't quite get the last few tenths. good luck MO

By the color and its mouth tells you it is a male

Is it that the mouth is large?
Thanks Thump. No. The larger mouth is because it's a white crappie. The obvious thing that makes you know it's a male, is the spawning colors its in. I don't know if this holds true in all parts of the US, but here in north TX, the male crappie will turn very black when he is in full spawn mode. No doubt in my mind, it's a white crappie and it's a male.
