HI everyone. I have been reading this forum for a while. Finally joined a few day ago. I'm am still learning a lot. I love bass fishing. I have read all over the net and bought ever dvd bps had lol. I am deployed right now and need help with picking a rod. I love throwing worms t-rig and c-rig and going to try lizards when I get home. My problem is getting the weights to match the rod. From what I'm throwing I need a rod to handle 1/4 weight shallow water and 3/8 for deep water. This is about the normal weight to throw, from what I've read. I maybe be over reading into thing. I just would like to get it right the first time. I'm using a spinning reel and I'm looking at spending $100.00. Here are the three company's and models i have chosen. Thanks for all the help.

The TFO is looking nice and i think the weight is matching close to what i need i think lol not real sure

You will be more than pleased with the BuCoo. Best $100 rod on the market.

It's all personal preference. I've handled the St. Croix and the TFO's and have nothing bad to say about them other than they are a little heavy in comparison to the BuCoo. If you don't mind the weight I'm sure they are just as good, but again it's all personal preference. As far as weight sizes on the rod, anything that'll handle 1/16-1/2 oz would be a good starter rod. To most, the norm is a 6'6 rod being a starter, but I don't really like MY rods to be under 7ft. I feel a 7ft rod will accomodate just about anything I need to do.

Falcon bucoo 7ft medium heavy ..mojo is a heavy rod that will wear you out faster. The TFO is a good rod but that falcon is a rod you can trust as a rod that will last a long time if taken care of. Like said its all personal preference bit out of those three go with the falcon.

I have and fish both a Bucoo and a TFO. I like them both. The Bucoo is a little lighter, but it is not a significant difference. The TFO has more guides than the Bucoo and casts a little better...IMO.

You will be pleased with either one.

Thanks for helping the noob lol. Hopefully you all can tell I tried to do some research. So I'm going to go with the Falcon BuCoo then. Will try a TFO later. Last question I should go with the BuCoo Spin Rod 7' Medium BCS-4-17. Is this right? Sorry I only ask because Falcon web site says its a Cranker spin rod. Tackle warehouse say "All purpose medium action spinning rod for shakey headd, jigs and small worms." So I'm a little confused. Just need the best one for plastics. Thanks again everyone.

The 4-17 will be perfect for soft plastics. thumb Although if you don't mind paying shipping, the Wendlandt spinning model Cara would be the same price and a better rod. Here is a link to it.

I think you need to go to a tackle shop and pick up several rods and reels to see what length and weight best fits your application, before you buy.

I totally under stand and agree. That is the best advice you can give someone. I need a rod for when I get home. When I was on RnR I broke my 7ft combo. I rolled it up in the car window. Thankfully it was after my trip to my grandfathers lake house.
After next year when I learn a lot more and going to buy nice equipment you better believe I'm going to play with them. It just wont hurt buying this rod for now. Heck if I don't like it ill keep it around for my wife so when she come fishing with me. So it wont go to waste.

Thanks for the advice on the rod, 210!! I just ordered it. banana
Now I need to match up a solid spinning reel with it. I'm looking at spending no more than $250. I currently have a Shimano Stradic 3000FI and I want to try something new. This way I can compare the Shimano to another reel. I was thinking about the Shimano Stradic CI4F, but would like to try another brand if I can be convinced. Otherwise, I just become a Shimano guy...
Anyway, I'm going to dig through the board and see what others are saying. However, I'm reaching out here for any suggestions as well. Thanks for any/all advice.

Edit Reason: Wanted to clarify the type of reel I'm looking for. I.E. spinning

It came in last week on Tuesday. My wife asked "is this actually going to help you catch a big on or you still going to catch tinny ones" lol. Can't wait to hold it in 14 days.
Well I'm thinking I might match it with Shimano Saros F. But ill see. I'm going to take a trip to bps in Garland and play with a few. I'm from Rowlett and station at ft hood. Well right now im in the desert with no fishing whole in sight lol.

I like daiwa reels better when it comes to spinning gear. I simply seem to have less line twist with them even tho all of my casting reels are curados.
