Heading down there in a couple weeks and wanted to gain some perspective on what if any dangers there are? I read about some of the violence that took place there in 2010. Has there been incidents since?

yes.......if you have never been before, just stay on US side and better yet get a guide for your first day. You wont regret it.

I think that is more of a personal choice better left to you and your family, not the internet. I have been twice this year and never felt unsafe but I respect people that don't feel comfortable with it. Yes there have been incidents this year, I was down there the weekend the father and son got shot at in the bass boat on the MX side.

Safe...probably on the US side but my choice is to let others prove that it is safe. Regardless, I would encourage you NOT to cross over to Mexico for dinner, shopping, or anything else...not worth the risk.

Just going to fish and have a guide booked so I am sure he knows whats up. I think I was a little caught off guard by the stories that were popping up when I was googling Lake Falcon for fishing purposes. You dont hear much about that up here in the great white north. We are only 2000 miles from the Mexican border up here :-)

I fished it in August. We were on the Mexico side 99.99% of the time. We fished in Salado 75% of the time. Did we feel safe? Yes we did. Could something go wrong, possibly. But then again I could get in a car wreck on my 5 mile drive to work too.

The few times that I have been there in the last 2 years i have felt safe. Just pay attention to your surroundings and if you feel like something is not right go with your gut and get the heck out of Dodge.

Stay on the U.S. side and everything will be good, just have fun, catch fish, and the "danger factor" will fade away from your mind.

Been going for 5 years now and I would say safe. I have never heard a gun shot or seen anything out of the norm. Cell phone service is very good for me all over the lake. I use sprint. There is lots of patrol boats from the border patrol,TP&W and a few helicopters as well on both sides. I do not go back to the church but if someone told me I could catch a 15 lb bass there I might go back there. Anyhow if you do not trust anything that has been said here to much you can catch lots of fish on the Texas side also.I would say one other thing, you have a better chance at getting shot here at a 7/11 than you do there while fishing ! Good Luck & Good Fishing !

Been several times this year....SAFE! And when the question gets asked tomorrow the answer will be the same...SAFE! Bass fishermen on Falcon have a good track record. Not completely spotless but a good record. Everything we do in life involves risk management from fishing Falcon to driving to work. The odds are highly in your favor for a safe trip. Would I go across the border(on land) anywhere on the Texas border? Absolutly not! Thousands of Mexicans have died just across the border in the last few years. Your greatest danger fishing Falcon is like "trying" cocaine...you WILL get addicted. Go and have fun!

We fished for 3 straight days on the Mexican side in the Salado Creek and had no problems whatsoever. There were Mexican gill net fisherman all around us and we never had a problem with any of them. I don't claim to be an expert on Falcon but I like it to Iraq. If you don't see people around the bank on the mexican side up the creeks or see fisherman on the water, they probablly know something is up just like during an attack in Iraq. JMO

The drive to Falcon is probably the most dangerous part of the whole trip. If you are flying your all good:)

Guess we will find out in 4 days. Be there from the 18th - 20th fishing with Jim Edwards and my Dad. Fully expecting this to be the best trip we have ever had bass fishing. I will post updates in the Bass Fishing section as we progress.

They are coming unless we stop the Illegals Invading the USA, and I think we have lost this war years ago......

Thats like asking if Fair Park in Dallas is safe Random acts of violence occur along the border - you are only as SAFE as you make yourself !!!

Just got back yesterday from Falcon fished it five days. Went deep into Mexico to fish, never had any problems. Even had the U.S. Border Patrol stop us and checked our boat. Just watch yourself and be off before dark. Some days we caught better fish in Mexico, some days in Texas.
