Have been using a meat grinder attachment on our Kitchen Aid mixer for many years to grind beef, pork, etc. Am ready to upgrade to something more substantial. Don't want a major industrial type, but something that will grind 5-10 lbs. at a time at a reasonably quick pace and doesn't require a lot of space to store or has major clean up issues. Any suggestions and sources will be appreciated.

i bought the 1.75hp grinder from cabelas a couple years back. it'll suck down anything you throw in it. we grind about 700-800lbs when we make sausage every year and it spits it out fast than we can grind. but like you said, any of the commercial ones (.5 - 1.75hp) are way over kill for 10-15lbs at a time but that .5hp grinder for 300$ is probably worth it for something that'll last years and years and won't burn up.

I have a cabelas 1.5 hp and it is awsome. It will last a lifetime if it is taken care of. A friend of mine has a 3/4 hp cabelas and it works good also. Cabelas has my vote.

We used my cousins 1.5 Cabelas grinder for sausage for about 5 years, we thought it was great. But like anyone else, we wanted bigger, better and faster. The 1.75 is awesome and scary. You can ball up your fist and fit it in the throat and with out a doubt, it sucks down anything you put in there.
