Looking to troll for some reds and hybrids this weekend any insight on where the fish have been would be Great. I trolled for a few hour last weekend using hell-pets and did pretty good. About what speed have yall been trolling at I was doing about 1-1.5 mph last weekend is that to slow? And are there any bait better that hell-pets? Any and all info would be helpfull.

this N wind will probably have them in a different pattern... if it's good S wind go to the dam... i troll at 4+mph then when i see a school kick it down to about 3.5mph... if the hell pets worked for you then keep using them.. they been hitting great on silver spoons last couple weeks.

Well they were biting good on yeh mon craw fish too . Spoons should be pretty good too . This change on weather will make them go hide for sure but they were good around dam area and should be out there for awhile .
Whenever you come around school they will bite just anything.

Just a heads up, there will be a catfish tournament on Cally this Saturday so it may be a little more crowded than usual.

Not sure how you understand it ! but couples of things i have learned from that lake is you can't find them at one place anymore . If you are trolling or taking kayak you will have to keep on moving and find them . Use samething that has been working for one cause if you find school they will bite anything . They move pretty fast and most of the schools are running around Dam lately.

jsb91010n freely gives lots of great advice and tips (advice that will work if you apply it too) on this and other forums, and I have never noted a sarcastic or rude tone. I am sure his post here is being misintrepreted.

I guess that I'm just not very bright. A guy advises that WahooBob go to the dam, troll spoons, and look for schools of fish and he's accused of being sarcastic and (I guess) of being an illegal alien. How'd he get all of that out of some pretty good advice on how to catch fish? Some people.

lol, i just checked this thread again... how interesting! anyways, i thought my advice was very sound. I apologize for not giving exact GPS coordinates and brand name of spoon LOL. this what you can see if you "go to dam troll spoons look for schools".. and i always give helpful advice to anyone who wants it, but if you really want to catch reds you better keep moving (usually).

i'd still go... ya never know... the past N winds front that came through didn't affect the fish at all they were still packed up like sardines by the dam... if i were you i'd go and if your not picking them up trolling look for slicks and smell and cast... mopped up on them yesterday casting.

Oct 26, 2011 Water clear. Black bass are fair on watermelon spinnerbaits and crankbaits near the dam. Striped bass are fair on shad. Redfish are good on perch along the shoreline. Crappie are fair on minnows. Channel and blue catfish are good on shrimp, cheesebait, and shad near the discharge. Yellow catfish are slow.
Thats what TPW says I didnt even know there were crappie there still anyone ever catch them?

Crappie are fair on minnows??? That's an outright LIE!! I'll bet you can't find one single person that has caught even ONE crappie out of that lake in the last 20 years. Makes a person wonder how reliable those TPWD fishing reports really are.

Anybody that would fish Reds after a front like we just had has not fished the lake much.. 5 days of south wind will make the fish bunch back up and turn on.. North wind and front get them lock jaw.

REDFISHON... with all due respect, i do agree with your take on the fronts, however that rule doesn't ALWAYS apply... shortly after that last front came i still went and the N wind was blowing hard! miraculously, the fish were still by dam (hadn't moved), and there was some to be caught! now it was tough to fish becauese of course with a N wind it all ends up at the dam and it was rough in my little boat lol...I do agree with you though man not trying to start an argument at all, i just don't think that rule is set in stone. Respect to you sir... i went yesterday too and it had only been South wind 1 day and i saw TONS of schools and caught some nice lunkers, granted they were very finicky and picky it can be done

And not as good for the most part. I just pick my days carefully it costs me 100 bucks in gas to get down there and want to have the best chance.. If I still lived in SA I would go no matter what the weather.. I was catching fish there a few years back with a tropical strom blowing over us.LOL.. I fish thru stuff like this at the coast.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rvJmRO1-Sw.. I agree with you above it is what you make of it.

Is anybody heading up to Cali this weekend? Finally pulled the trigger and purchased another boat. What do you guys recommend as far as looking for the reds right now.
Thanks, Michael

they will probably be on the move after this front... they alraedy moved before it but they might return... i would head to the dam first and check it out...from there if they aren't there head towards the powerlines. Good luck and be safe it's gonna be pretty windy

the redfish are going to be SUPER slow in the main lake until late february... and if you tried it a few weeks ago they were slowing down but there, but they weren't at 10-15ft, they were deeper.. that might explain no luck, but also if your in the wrong area where there are no fish doesn't matter the depth! check out your graph and look for areas that have no bait and be aware for the smell...if you have those 2 they are there so look harder... move fast and don't just cruise around slow! good luck bro ... also jet divers are too much of a pain.. just use Norman DD22's.. or in years past i've caught plenty on a 3/4-1oz traps...

yeah Henner... next time just tell her to "sit down, shutup" that's usually what i tell my chick when she keeps asking "where are the reds?" HAHA ... but i promise you one thing bro, the first time she hooks up with a solid redfish she will never want to catfish again, and will have NO PROBLEM waiting for hours for that fight a red provides!! my girl is hooked ever since her first keeper that pulled drag...now her PB is over 17lb's... check this vid of her catching a fatty

PM me henner if you're interested in joining a SA fishing site... i post most of my reports there and there's some others that fish for cats, and other fish... i only fish for the reds out there unless i wanna waste a nice winters day trying catfish... any other questions don't hesitate to holler at me i don't mind helping another angler out catch some red headed sluts
