Noticed that Tackle Warehouse has a Curado 51e on sale.

Would this be a good reel for weighless flukes over grass?

What would be a good rod to match?

I use the Chronarch 51mg for my soft plastics which is essentially the same reel nut with a magnesium frame and it is awesome. The drag is a little skimpy but that makes it more fun to play the fish. Mine is paired with a 7' hvy Falcon BuCoo micro. It weighs in right around 9.5-10 oz overall weight and really comfortable to fish with all day long.

It would however I prefer spinning gear with Braid. I have a 7' Medium Rod with a Sahara 2500 spooled with 20# Braid (Power Pro)down to a 20# Flourocarbon Leader tied to a swivel to the main line at about 10" from the hook. It will cast a mile and I can skip easily if I need to for low hanging docks. If there is anything better than grass, it is a dock with grass.

NOthing like Skipping a fluke when fish are even a little bit active. I also use it for big worms and lizards weightless or with a small 1/32 ounce bullet weight above the swivel like a CRig.

How about a Dobyns 663 or 703? I understand they are very good rods.

Best to use a 7 to 1 reel and a medium heavy rod for that. Shimano rods have a lifetime warranty against breakage. Hope this helps.

I use a 7' BuCoo med action w/ a curado e50 for mostly all of my weightless/small weight womr fishing. I like the lil bit of give that a med rod has. A heavy rod seems like overkill to me but it really just comes down to personal preference. To answer your questionabout the Curado though it will cast a weightless fluke a mile! I love mine

Let me clarify why I use a heavy action rod for flukes. The only time I throw anything smaller than a magnum sized fluke is on a dropshot. All my weightless fluke throwing is magnums + a 7-8/0 ewg hook. You need a beefy rod to set the hook through all that plastic. I don't mean for this post to sound disrespectful to yours, if it at all sounds that way.

No sir in fact after I had posted mine I figured you were probably throwing the magnums. I havent had much luke with the magnums but I can flat tear em up with the regular size! But yes a heavy action rod is definitely needed for those bigger worms. Good point!

I used (I say used now because I sold my Bucoo) the H to throw 5" flukes, but more often than not I would use the Big Bite Baits jerk shad rather than the Zoom Fluke. It is a little thicker and noticeably heavier. Add to that the fact that the H Bucoo Micro fishes more like a MH with a soft tip...it makes for a pretty good setup. Not sure what I am going to do for a fluke rod now, maybe the 6'7" Cara T7 weightless worm rod the next time Academy has another rod riot.

No need for a rod riot...if your academy has cara weightless worm rods, they will ring up $24.88
