ok so my brother was talking to a diver who dove the dam, and swears there are cats 5ft in length and up just stacked up on one another on the base...and my brother asked if there are so many how come they never bring one up....the diver said, it is due to being fifty feet or more down under water if you grab a cat and he rips your airline out and towes you around you'll die, but the mystery is if there are so many huge cats there why have none of us seen or caught one?

When I was 8 years old I heard a diver Saw cats "at the dam" that were as big as Volks Wagon Bugs. Urban Legends will never die.

I forgot to say that the Cats a I heard about were in lake Ray Hubbard. I guess we should call these Rural legends instead of Urban Legends. Well I guess Ray Hub could still be a Urban legend.

We dove lake fork this summer to retrieve a GoPro camera I lost (got knocked off the boat and fell in the water) but we didn't see any like what's in the video.....BUT, my point is, IF I was diving and I saw hundreds of 30-60lb flats together, (and I wasn't a catfisherman or fisherman by that means) I might come to the top and freak out JUST a little bit!

I've seen that vid and some others showing "wintering flats". Like bears in hibernation when the water gets cold.

That vid is proof of them stacking. Look up history of blue cats. There are some old black -n-white photos of some very large fish.

Alot of people think just cause they hook it they should land it.If you have ever hooked up with a 60lb or better than you can understand the strenght and power of hundred plus.

With the gear these days i bet we see some very large cats soon.

I have heard big catfish/diver stories all off the country from the 395 pound flat head that lived in a sunken school bus in Illinois to the giants that lived in LOP spillway. Just gotta remember if a fisherman starts his tale with "You ain't gonna believe this....." you shouldn't.

The pic. of the Benbrook ones looks real and I believe it....The 67 and 68 pounders that were in the 47 studebaker trunk. The one pulled out by Ft. Worth Firefighters in the 60's. Theory is they had grown up in the trunk....I guess eating stray bluegills.

my grandmas husband used to be a marine biologist and caught a 65 lber years ago, they cut the dorsal fin off and counted the rings, it was 20 years old, and he said it had shown a wierd growth pattern where they had rapid and very minimal growth. he say they have points where they dont stop growing.

they put on 2lbs year one, then the rest depends on food and genetics, did i mention it was a flatty, and like my grandmas husband said they have periods where they keep growing non stop and periods they dont grow at all.

Cmon man think! It's not because they break line and wrap up. It's because they're not there Stevie. How many 20lb bass get landed nationally each year?

This is fail. You don't measure fish age with dorsal fin rings if such things even existed. You measure it via the inner ear bone (otolith) growth rings which requires killing the fish to get to it obviously.

I would not advise it, but the fastest way to prove the story seems to be a weighted explosive. Yes you will do some jail time ,but you will know if there are any big ones for sure. most likely when you meet buba in jail.

I was standing on the dam at Bucannon once looking down at the lake. From my birds eye view and the clear water I could plainly see 6 or 8 very large cats swimming near the surface. The sad thing is there was some poor soul about 30 yards away fishing hard and not getting a nibble. I thought his luck was just like mine, always 30 yards away from the honey hole. I watched for some time and then left discusted and amazed.

People feed the cats all the time there. You can buy a small bag of fish feed in the dam office to do so. The cats are conditioned to come up for it. It's really cool to watch. There are sure nuff some bigguns. Why I saw on the size of .......aww nevermind.
