I heard through the grapevine that the Fork tournament is on! 48 hrs of fishing with someone walking away with a great chunk of cash! Both Buffalo and Carp will weigh!

Official announcement will be made within a couple of days but the dates are set for the week after the ATC and the tournament payout pot is $10,000. It's a team format event (two anglers plus an optional runner) with entry fees set at $400 for teams registered by midnight Dec 31, and $450 for registrants after that time.
The tournament is being run by Wild Carp Companies and USCARPPRO magazine in association with the Lake Fork Sportsman's Association. Buffs and Carp count in this tournament.
We've worked hard to change the date so as not to clash with the ATC event. That way, anglers have the opportunity to fish both events if they want to.
Details of how to register, rules and competition formats will be available soon. I'll update the thread when the official announcement is made.

I thought that bank access was a major issue on Fork; how do you get around that? Every peg in a marina, or is there a large public access park that I haven't heard of? Sounds exciting, regardless!

We worked with the Lake Fork Sportsman's Association to obtain bank space that is not normally publicly accessible.

One more little detail - there may be an additional $10,000 up for grabs on top of the prize money. We're planning to microtag two fish, one carp and one buff. Each fish is worth an additional $5000 for the first angler to catch them during the tourney. This is not yet set in stone but we have the insurance quotes to do it so if you catch the tagged carp and the tagged buff, you could walk away $10,000 better off in addition to the $10,000 prize pot on offer. There will not be an extra fee to enter the tagged fish competition - that will be part of the $400/$450 per-team entry fee.

It is going to be amazing guys. We(Wild Carp Companies) are very excited to working with USCarpPro and the LFSA. This tournament will be the model for more to come in Texas. Look for at least 2 big money tournaments a year as well as the Wild Carp Club of Texas points based sessions already scheduled.

My trouble with it is the timing; just after ATC (which I will be fishing), as well as the entry fee being a bit stiff for me.

$75 vs $200 to fish it... 75 fits my budget, 200 does not. No brainer, indeed.

The last thing I want to see is this becoming an ATC vs Lake Fork Tourney debate. Nor do I want it becoming a CAG vs USCP/WCC contest. That benefits no one and I believe there's enough room in the calendar and the state of Texas to accommodate us all.
We realize the Lake Fork Tourney is not going to fit everyone's budgets but we believe the price point is fair given the prizes on offer--$10,000 prize pots and two $5000 tagged fish prizes are not cheap to cover.
I'll also add that we planned the event initially for the last weekend in February but when we found out that the ATC had been brought forward from the normal end of March slot, it took a huge effort from us so that our event did not run on the same weekend as the ATC.
We finally managed to move our date back a week so that more anglers would have the opportunity to participate in both events, as individual budgets allow.
The timing is an unfortunate coincidence. Nothing more than that. Please don't turn this into another polarizing debate.

fishing both events back to back would be awesome but with money being as tight as it is lately I will be lucky to be able to fish 1 of them, I wish everyone the best on both tournaments.

A huge + Tony for that comment. I think we forget that we both love this trophy fish. Push all emotions aside and fish either both events or just one. Doesn't really matter, it's all for the same cause, bringing education to the sport of carp angling. Good luck guys with this tourny and will hopefully be at a future event as a competitor. Hope to see new faces at the Nov 12 tourny in Austin.

I'm looking forward to the time when the entry fee is not an issue, my younger son's a Junior at A&M this year, once colleges are completed I'll have more disposable income (which these are for me; donating to others' winnings!) for tournaments.
I'm not wild about the 48 hrs straight, but am willing to give it a try sometime. It takes me most of a week to recover from an overnighter!
Good luck guys! Looks like a quality tournament series (WCC) being planned!

Are there a maximum number of entries? No, but logistically there are only a finite number of pegs available in the stretch of water we plan to fish. If we approach that number (and we'll review that with LFSA in November) we may have to close registration. At this time, we have not set a limit.

Are there a maximum number of entries? I think they have at least 7 miles of bank space, I'd say no limit!

Well I am breaking my no posting rule on here for this.......... Great news for Carp fishing in Texas. This event has been a long time in the planning, a huge amount of work has been done already..........I for one cannot wait to get back to Texas. Looking forward to seeing some of you guys again (in the flesh so to speak), and meeting some of the guys I haven't met yet. This event will be a doozy IMO!

It's been a long time since I've seen you Karl. I think it was when you fished with zach at Athens after the ATC.

Yeah probably Tracy, that was the last time I was in Texas.......Sure have missed fishing out there, I have some fantastic memories of my time fishing there, with all kinds of people. I loved Athens, and cannot believe more big carp (and buffs don';t get reported from there)......... And yes I saw Zach pick up a spawning 30lb carp with his bare hands from there too, with my own eyes (it isn't a tall tale!!) Hopefully I can make some more good memories at this event.......Really looking forward to trying anyway!! Hope to see you there Tracy if your wife can keep it corked for that weekend!

I am looking forward to it...anyone fished any of that 7 miles of bank yet? Its going to be cool to see what comes out...
Can sobeone post a Google map of the 7 miles of bank?
Any chance we could get a insurance policy on a lake record as apposed to tagged fish?
Dave and I already have some plans...
Gonna bust out the triple xxx glow bait... Its really cool that you both are fishing it! Really look forward to seeing the two of you fishing a new premier event in the great state of Texas! Beer's are on me! Have a total blast!

I would think that a tournament on a lake this big would allow 3 rods per angler, not 2.

I hope that the bank space will be restricted from bass boats. Fork is a world class bass fishery with Hundreds if not thousands of boats on it at any given time, mostly slowly moving down the shorelines pitching to any possible cover. Could be a bank fishers nightmare if not restricted... I look forward to fishing this some time, just not this year.

There's no spots on fork that will possibly be free of bass fishermen. I'd say since it's at the time it is we shouldn't have too much trouble with them since the spawn is going on but we may just have to live with them.

as soon as we go out and visit the available bankspace we will make the determination if we go up to 3 rods per person. As far as bass fishermen bothering us I don't see it being a problem. We might get a few spectators but most of them will know about our tournament and try and avoid us.
Even with me talking with the rowing clubs and university and kayak rental places on LBL we still had issues at the ATC. You can't control everyone and make them abide by our request.

I sure wouldn't want to be around a bunch of guys with long cast rods throwing out 3oz or bigger sinkers in a bass boat.

Jim and I are planning on it. Only thing that would prevent me from doing it is if I have to pick just one tourney that week.

Fork has lots of snags. I hope that this 7 mile area is relatively clean for yall.
Good luck to all who fish it. This is a fantastic idea and I see some very large fish being caught there for the tourny!

I guess no one with a USCARPPRO or WCC affiliation will be fishing it then?? It would be totally unfare for some to know the location of the pegs and others not to...it would really put the entire event in a bad light and put all futare events at risk... I mean nothing would be better then to have a USCARPPRO staffer win it and since you guys are so close you would I imagine give them information that would tilt the event in there favor.

ok cool, also its not NEW YORK so dump that 2 rod rule...this is TEXAS we get up to 100 hooks here.
that means no USCARPPRO sponsors or advisers or writers correct? the 2 rod rule is getting examined when we visit the spot here in a few weeks. Looks like it will be dropped for a 3 rod rule. Zach, what are you implying? Are you saying sponsors of the magazine are not allowed to fish due to possible cheating? I don't think CARPTS has that same rule that sponsors cannot fish their events cuz I saw a lot of Dynamite baits teams at their tourneys? This is not going to be a walk off. All of the pegs will drawn at random so knowing the swims will not make a bit of difference for anyone. Are you really going to fish this event or just dissect it?

Let's hold on a second here. The location is chosen but the pegs have not been decided yet. That will happen after we visit the location and before the tournament starts. Locals may already have some local knowledge.
LOCAL (i.e. Live in Texas)prostaff of either USCP or WCC NOT be allowed to compete and neither will the tournament directors. They won't be gaining the advantage of local knowledge and you can be sure that there won't be any behind the scenes information passed out about locations either for any prostaff to gain an advantage.
As far as I am aware, and I think this is the way we are going, magazine advertizers and sponsors and WCC sponsors etc will also be allowed to compete. I see no reason not to allow that.
I'm not sure where this thread is going but we will be as fair as possible with regards to the peg locations and divulge them only after they are pegged. There will be no behind the scenes shenanigans or collusion whatsoever. The WCC tournaments have a great reputation for fairness and impartiality and we will do everything possible to maintain that reputation.
If anyone feels it won't be fair, then don't enter the tourney.

I have yet to say anything about this tourney, mostly because I will not be able to participate but everything being done be the directors looks very up and up to me and we should be thanking them for having such a high dollar event at our back door and not picking at it with peg issues and the such.
The bit not having the sponsors being able to participate would be a bad call, they are what makes a tourney what it is.

This has the makings of a great tournament.
It will be kept fair. no information will be shared, including location; preventing locals from mapping the pegs in a boat prior to the event.

Lol @ Zach
Insinuating that there may be an advantage for certain people, but wanting peg locations so he can gain an advantage by mapping swims.
Nice bait Zach but no real takers ;-)
Don't worry mate EVERYTHING will be revealed after our visit there in a couple of weeks......,,,,.
This will be a great event, hopefully one that future events are modeled on.

Zach Still not sure on the fishing to be honest, but I will be there for sure! And remember young grasshopper......."A man who is master of patience is master of everything else." All will be revealed in good time I have been really patient, we are closing in on the deadline to get in on the cheap price, but we have no more details. I just want a general area so I know I won't be sitting in a marsh or trying to deal with a unreasonable about of timber.

and can we use boats...if there are a ton of trees using a boat could save a bunch of fish As of now, we can't use any form of watercraft due to liability reasons(injury or drowning).

Pretty sure from what I saw during my visit over there recently, nobody will have to deal with unreasonable amounts of timber....Nor will anybody be sitting in a marsh! But then again who is to define unreasonable? Also I'm absolutely positive that you will not be using a boat Like several/most other events held over here in the US, the actual pegging is left pretty late due to the possibility of things changing. Take the ATC for example.....We all knew we would be on Town Lake, but we didn't know what pegs would be used until the draw, or a couple of days before at the earliest.

Karl your a bit out of the loop no biggie, I had a conversation with john monday over the phone and he said he would try to have a map up Tuesday and that he has gotten several calls from people asking for the same thing John at LFSA? This tourney is being managed by Wild Carp Companies and promoted by USCARPPRO in conjunction with LFSA. We've all worked hard at identifying suitable pegs and we have received confirmation that we will have access to SRA land, not including the dam, for the tourney. Pegging, as Karl correctly stated, is being determined based upon the access granted to us from all over the lake, including this land, and the fishability of each location. Thus, no one will be forced to fish unfishable pegs whether that's due to bank conditions or standing timber. At this time, we have more than enough good peg locations for all expected entrants to fish competitively and without location-specific hindrances. Areas that may be pegged have been identified but I suggest that anyone with concerns over specific peg locations contact Sean or Jason at WildCarpCompanies before paying to enter the competition. I'm sure Sean and Jason will do whatever is necessary to ensure that all entrants will be given suitable and competitive pegs.

As for the LFSA and the 7 miles of bank space... WCC, USCP and the LFSA has worked with the SRA and with LFSA members and Lake Fork residents and businesses to ensure we have more than enough peggable and competitive bank space for the tournament. Is is 7 miles? We didn't measure it to the inch. If it's only 6 miles, would that be enough for up to 30 or 40 teams?

My original concern was the 7 miles of bank access you had gotten from LFSA that I assumed was SRA land. You know what they say about assuming Zach Looking forward to seeing you there, it has been too long

dude I assumed right, Jason of the WCC told me you guys are looking into RV parks and some bridges now you have to play it by ear as the water level is so low and subject to change also a couple of the members of the LFSA had volunteered land Jason told me he would get a map up of the general areas that where going to be pegged he also told me I wasn't the only one that had called and asked about it. I was just asking Jason if he had a chance to do that as he said he was going to post it here on the TFF and on the WCC website..
You have a ton of carp anglers close to that lake we all know there are big fish there but the reason many of us don't fish it is because lake of bank access. So yes many of us are interested in the locations of the pegs.
Zach Whatever mate You were the one originally moaning about unfair advantages, now you want to have the peg locations, so you can gain an unfair advantage over the guys who don't know the venue. I am however very pleased that you have everyone else's interest at heart, and have been persistent in your questions. (And edits!) All these guys you mention asking, and you being their spokesman is very kind of you. I said it earlier in the thread mate.............You've got nice bait, but no real takers. You registered for the event yet????

Sorry for not responding sooner, but I am generally not much of a forum poster. This is Tournament Director Jason Bernhardt from WCC.
Everyone please refer to our website as Rich pointed out. There is a map up with tentative peg sections posted. We have stated that peg locations may be subject to change due to water level fluctuations, as we visited the lake for pegging purposes at the end of a very long TX drought.
We are partnering with USCARPPRO magazine and Lake Fork Sportsman's Association on this event, and LFSA is our eyes and ears in Lake Fork for monitoring the water levels and peg locations.
LFSA informed us this week that we have the Sabine River Authority's cooperation for this event to take place, which is positive since it may open up additional land for back up and/or expansion.
No matter what the final outcome of the eventual peg locations, there will be ample bank space for our competitors.

Update, Jason J and I will be looking at some previously un fished SRA controlled bank space this weekend.
These pegs will be in addition to the currently listed ones and will be on deep water.

Great news for bivvy users at the WCC event at Fork Lake Wild Carp Companies BREAKING NEWS
Thanks to the efforts of Lake Fork Sportsman's Association President Arlan Yaeger and company, the Sabine River Authority has agreed to temporarily waive the no camping rule for all competitors during the Lake Fork Carp & Buffalo Challenge!
The use of brolleys, bivvies and small tents will be permitted throughout the duration of the 44-hr event, not just during nighttime. Please try to avoid using large (10' x 10' or larger) pop-up tents if possible. No excuse for the whiny wimps who have said they will not fish it because they want to have the bivvies up all the time and couldn't take them down during the day. Ooooh Ooooh! We are not fishing it because you have to take your bivvy down during the day. Come on Zach......After all your questions and pi$$ing initially, and the moaning that your questions were not being addressed..........Time to chit or get off the pot!!!! Don't be scared homie (© Nick Diaz)

Challenge activities worth noting:
On Thursday, March 1, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, Wild Carp Companies, USCARPRO Magazine, and the Lake Fork Sportsman's Association are arranging for demonstrations on the latest Carp & Buffalo fishing techniques and guest speakers who are experts on rough fish species and the emergence of rough fish tournaments in Europe and other parts of the US. The Saturday post-tournament awards ceremony will take place at 2:00 pm. Both the outreach event and awards ceremony will take place at Oak Ridge Marina. The public is invited to both.
The public is also invited to visit the various peg sites during the tournament to watch the Challenge anglers in action. The peg site information will be posted at Oak Ridge Marina after the drawing.

Team BigCarpTackle.com is in.
Can we get a Google maps or Google earth shot of where we will be fiahing Bank space secured yet....I am looking forward to this tournament Is it on SRA land? Want to get the boat out there and start mapping swims :-) ok cool, also its not NEW YORK so dump that 2 rod rule...this is TEXAS we get up to 100 hooks here.
that means no USCARPPRO sponsors or advisers or writers correct? wow, sorry if asking questions before I send off my money upsets you guys. I am not asking to know the swims I was just asking where the 7 miles of bank access is I could careless about pegs.
don't get so defensive. and yes team bigcarptackle.com is in 100% No one is looking forward to this thing more then me I want to win it and I plan to :-) I have wanted to see a tourney on fork for years the fish we will catch will blow this lake wide open and its going to be a big deal when word gets out.....its not just bass that are trophys here.... Karl you know me better then most I went fishing, I want to know the location of those 7 miles don't want to be neck deep in Gators and wild hogs and Marsh I know it has to be on sra land i have explored it remember i have been fishing and talking about fork for years! I am mostly just anxious to see where it will be... Ok that is badazz ... long sleave on a orange shirt. . It needs a gun.....put a .44 Cal gun in there and it will be the perfect shirt...it is Texas and we all love our guns! the fact its a buffalo and not a carp is kinda cool as well. [quote]
I have been really patient, we are closing in on the deadline to get in on the cheap price, but we have no more details. I just want a general area so I know I won't be sitting in a marsh or trying to deal with a unreasonable about of timber.
and can we use boats...if there are a ton of trees using a boat could save a bunch of fish John any update on the pegging map?? Karl your a bit out of the loop no biggie, I had a conversation with Jason at wcc monday over the phone and he said he would try to have a map up Tuesday and that he has gotten several calls from people asking for the same thing My original concern was the 7 miles of bank access you had gotten from LFSA that I assumed was SRA land. dude I assumed right, Jason of the WCC told me you guys are looking into RV parks and some bridges now you have to play it by ear as the water level is so low and subject to change also a couple of the members of the LFSA had volunteered land Jason told me he would get a map up of the general areas that where going to be pegged he also told me I wasn't the only one that had called and asked about it. You have a ton of carp anglers close to that lake we all know there are big fish there but the reason many of us don't fish it is because lake of bank access. So yes many of us are interested in the locations of the pegs.
Fork and Town Lake can not be compared Fork is a 27,000 acre lake in the middle of where Town lake is a public park with pretty much unlimited bank access...
Awesome Thanks Jason! I fished a coouple of those.
So Zach.................You seemed so interested and were so full of questions and suggestions. You signing up for it or what............. Or were you just doing a little cyber fishing all along Be good to see another Team BCT in the list of entrants Some great landscape there for you to take photographs of too

I was going to fish it with dave, he saw the bivy rule and booked a trip to the Bahama's with his family. That is hilarious After the hardships some of his competitors had to endure in some of his tourneys (I can guarantee there are some guys who fished the Worlds in 2005, that would have given their right arms to have even had a bivvy to take up or down) I thought you and him were hardcore carpers . In the words of Billy Ocean............When the going gets tough (Or potentially uncomfortable) the tough don't bother !!!

Pretty amazing fishing going on out there. Spotty, but with changing conditions, maybe everyone will get a chance to get on the board. Austin Anderson, aka. Pondbass, just after sunrise at Lake Fork this morning. Jacob Iacob, Romanian via Chicago, at Peg 20, with an 18#2oz. common carp.

Pretty amazing when a mid 40 won't improve your standings. This is turning into a very special week for TX rough fishing.

It's pretty obvious that it's unfair to compare it to Austin at this point in the game. The epicenter just moved north and east a bit. Good to meet you as well. What a friendly bunch.

They are totally different fishery's, so its not fare to compare them. It dose further solidify Texas as a premier destination for carp fishing.

I also think it can't be compared. As I have read only way of fishing fork by the bank is trespassing on the land they opened for you guys for this tournament. Congratulations on a great event,,,,always knew Fork might be "KILLER" this proved it !!! Looks like RECORD BASS, and other RECORD SPECIES, can and do exist.. Hats off to all that were part of putting this together. Dave, Tony, and all the guys at Wild Carp Co. ]WELL DONENext year, will be even better,,,for this one and the ATC,,,TEXAS is still the state Huge Congratulations to the Winners, and everyone that registered ,,,takes courage to register for a new tourney, with outcomes that could be unknown,,,,so GREAT when it pays off !!! The ATC will be the ATC, and this new event will continue to be great,,,this is TEXAS more than enough room for both events and organizations to have great success,,,yes they are different, but they both promote our beloved fish, and that's cool with me !!! Congratulations again,,,,,well done !

Sitting here at Oak Ridge Marina and reflecting on the events that have unfolded over the last few days and I can honestly say I've seen something that was truly staggering. The number of personal bests, 3 lake records, seeing a team win the Big Four with their smallest fish being over 50 pounds, fish of 48 pounds not being counted because they were too small, a 58 and a 66 buff, mirrors, commons in the mid 30s, and a swarm of bass anglers wathing a slideshow of event pictures and asking where to buy carp gear... The list goes on.

AMAZING indeed Tony, couldn't be better for the sport,,,,wish there was a way to determine how many Bass Boats go up for sale, and how many rod pods get bought.....well done,,,,I know you put your heart into this one,,,,congratulations,,,,, And let's not forget to thank JASON, the guy behind the scenes

New Yorkers Jason and Sean from Wild Carp Companies were the driving force behind this happening. David Smith and Karl Haymer made several flights in from California to provide logistical support. Lee Young flew in from Wisconsin to marshal and advise... All on their own dollar. We can all say Go Texas and all that but this was a NATIONAL effort.

That is what it takes to make thing happen. Strong support and a huge team effort. We need to work together to better our awareness of the fish and make bigger tournaments happen in the future. Texas is a special state and was well represented at both events. I had a blast talking with Paul and Jacob in Austin and glad to see them do well after their struggles getting here to catch fish. Huge congrats to all winners of both events.

Lee Young flew in from Wisconsin to marshal and advise... All on their own dollar. We can all say Go Texas and all that but this was a NATIONAL effort. A bit sleep deprived here (13 hours in the last 5 days) but I also wanted to add that this event would not have taken place if it had not been for the amazing support of the communities of Lake Fork, the SRA, the Lake Fork Sportsman's Association, Barry and everyone at Oak Ridge Marina, Mr Cotton, and the sponsors, all of whom are very focused on the sport of bass angling and this very famous bass lake. They all helped WCC, USCARPPRO, and LFSA host a buffalo and carp event that has exceeded all our expectations and got the carp/rough fish world buzzing, not just in the USA but across the pond as well. We were welcomed with open arms and their support was outstanding. The anglers were even treated to sub sandwich meals and breakfast burritos, delivered to their swims, by the LFSA marshals and support team! And to the anglers involved who traveled thousands of miles from California, Illinois, New York, The Carolinas, Tennessee, Indiana and elsewhere, and locally from Texas... they made this event something special. We had great feedback and I think nearly all of them have already stated they'd be back for next year's event. Thank you to everyone who contributed. It truly was a privilege to be there. We're already setting out dates and can't wait to do it all again, bigger, better and with even more support. Tony

There was some talk about the entrance fee being too high earlier in the tourneys making; however if the fish haven't convinced anyone to do this tourney than the hospitality should!
Waking up and receiving a massive homemade breakfast burrito for free and brought to my bivvy was a first for me, as was the large lunch that was also brought to our swim. We received complimentary 5 gallon buckets stuffed to the brim with info, freebies, food, and care packages. At the awards ceremony free beer, pulled pork sandwiches, and cobbler. All and all, with a $200 entry fee you are really only paying about $100 of it, and I'm not speculating I did the math.
The layout of this tourney is nearly flawless, you are well away from your nearest team, yet close enough to come over and have a laugh or a few hundred (Austin & Amadeo.) I'd normally say I'm not a tournament guy and I'll still say this, but this would be the exception, it was superfluous that is all!
