When spooling the line on my bait caster it has a twist in the line and eventually ends up in little coils when I cast. I have tried flipping the spool in the other direction and still the same thing happens. Any advice would be helpful?? Thank you.

Mike

Have someone hold the spool with a rod and it will go on correct everytime.

Fear,
I use a 1/4 extension clamped to my bench so it is like someone holding it.

I just had a thought: I have been using a lot of slabs in the past weeks, could it be the barrel swivel I have tied between the slab and line causing the twist? Should I just tie on my slab without the swivel?

When spooling the line, if your right handed the crank is turned clockwise, the baitcaster spool is turning counter clockwise. The spool of your new line should also be turning counter clockwise on to the baitcaster. That stops the coils. A good quality barrel swivel will not twist your line. I would use a split ring on the slab and tie your line to it.

Drag it behind the boat to the knot and then reel in back it ... it will be perfect then.

I did that today with some old line that I am trying to use up.

I would think the swivel would help, not add to, line twist.

yep what he said, and if its a spinning reel, lay flat on floor with label up, take a few turns, if line twist up around eye of rod, turn spool over
