i've been crappie fishing with 20 braid and 6lb flouro. uni/uni is fairly easy and fairly strong but i recently switched to the albright. i've lost more jigs and less leaders with the albright. the uni knot seemed to be less predictable. of course when i break off it's because i'm hung in brush. sometimes the hook straightens sometimes the line breaks. i've landed blue cat up to 20lbs with no problems. i cant help you on the casting question. i'm only jigging.

Shawn - I've started to tie an Albright as my leader knot. I'll still tie a uni to ui cuz I'm quik at it, but the albright I thin is a smoother, cleaner knot for leaders that are especially thin! When you tie an albt, as you twist up te leader, as you come bac down, take care to lace it(criss-cross) IMPORTANT: rabbit went down the hole, so he gotta come back up same way!(at the end loop)

The albright is definately a stronger, slimmer knot. But you HAVE to make sure that you wrap the coils tightly and clinch evenly or the knot will fail.

I use braid and fluoro every time I fish, and I've found that some combinations like the blood knot, and some like the Uni knot. If I tie a blood knot twice and it breaks when I cinch it down, I tie a Uni knot and it always seems to work. I generally want to tie a blood knot if possible because it is tapered and casts better. I've been looking at the Bristol, because it is strong, but I haven't made the switch because it is more time consuming to tie.

Actually, I have read several knot tests in the last few years in the sportfishing mags (saltwater), and some form of the Bristol has won all but one (modified Albright won that one). When you consider the the amount of time required to tie an Albright well, it's not worth the effort.
I have a couple of rigs that are tied with a Bristol/Bimini Twist combination, but they were tied in my living room, with reading glasses on, and plenty of light under ideal conditions. I'm probably (k)not doing it in the field.

Modified Albright and Bristol consume too much time and you have to have good eye and good lights. I can do Uni knot with my eyes closed and it works fine for me.

Alberto / Modified Albright: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J56O3CZVu7M&feature=player_embeddedI've used it for over two years tying 10# Fireline to 8# Seaguar InvisX, crappie fishing brush piles and I haven't broken a line to leader knot yet.... Not that hard to tie with a little practice, the video is the best instruction I've seen.

Yep, that looks like a great alternative. And Knot Wars has it beating the Uni-Uni knot by about 20% or so. It's not too dificult to be used in the boat, too, although I'll still need reading glasses. Dang!!!

OK. I'm using the Alberto knot now. I tied on a leader this morning sitting in my inflatable pontoon, no glasses, 30# to 15# Invizx. I've pretty much retied all of my leaders with it.
Thanks for the heads up, Mike.

Thanks for the heads up, Mike. Been using it for over 2 years. I have made several posts. Knot knocking the uni to uni, but this one wins hands down. http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbt...ro_#Post7484229

The inevitable happened to me last weekend....toss enough crappie jigs into brush piles and you'll eventually tie into something you can't deal with I pitched a jig into a brush pile in about 8' of water, watched the line fall and when it "slacked out" picked up. WHAM something big and mean took off. I fought whatever it was for a few minutes until it took off under the boat and I couldn't hold it.....let's just say it's a good thing Dobyns has a good warranty program The only reason I relate this is that even though I broke a DX701 and lost the Loch Ness monster the Alberto Knot joining my line to leader held. Broke a rod, broke 8# fluoro, but the line to leader knot held. 'Nuff said??
