which way did you go to get in? From 78? 205. But I have a Jeep Rubicon on 36's and I had to use 4WD and my lockers to get close. There is a draw that I had to cross to get out there. Still could not drive all the way onto the lake bed. No way to get a big vehicle through.

It sure would be nice while it's so low if the city would go in and clean out the trash and things that do not need to be there. Wait, this is Dallas. What was I thinking! There was not too much trash out there. Not like I expected. There were some batteries, car parts, tires, and a LOT of trot line stuff (weights and concrete blocks with string attached).

I looking at the multitude of unused tags on my fishing license when it occurred to me that if the state was actually concerned for the resources it would make these tags for trot lines, rare fish (ie; 1 bass over 10 per year), etc, etc...my point being if a tag was needed for a trot line then maybe they wouldn't litter the lakes with so much stuff. nice pics btw, i like the shot of the stump & the motor

nows the time to take a back hoe and go dig some trenches, mark them stumps just like that one witht he pvc. You can mark all the stumps you like, but they will get taken down once the water comes back up. Always have, always will. The post you see on that stump is a metal post held on with a C-clamp. Don't know why that one has lasted this long without being removed.

I did not modify any stumps or move anything while I was there. But, if the mud was not so thick and deep under the power lines, I would have moved all of those cement blocks and piled them up by the powerline base. These things are going to destroy some lower ends and props. The lake is going to have to go another month without water to be able get to those blocks. I almost had to pull out of my boots a couple of times.

A bunch of us should go in with chain saws and cut those stumps down to the ground. Then you don't have to wory about someone taking the markers down No stumps, no need for markers.

As far as I know, it is not legal to do that. Besides, the guys that go up there use some of them as markers. If you take them out they have nothing to use to tell them where they are. This would make it dangerous for them. No need to cut them down. Besides, stumps hold fish.

You would go broke buying chains took one out at twok right infront of our dock it was about 1.5ft in diameter and we went through about 3 chains because that thing was so hard.

Not the stumps that knock off motors. I was refering to the ones on the way in. Noone stops to fish those. Plus I think most people that make that run have it GPS'd. In any case it was just a thought.

I posted these pics just to show how low the lake is and show how pretty the river is. If you want to take the risk of going to the river that's your choice. But, please do not go modify the lake by cutting down stumps because you think it will make it easier to get there. Thank you! (This is a general statement and is not directed at anyone in particular.) Please respect the lake and leave it as you found it. Unless you are removing trash.

The one thing to do is get GPS marks. Someone on this forum was talking about doing just that. Marking as many as possible. Then map them. Yes time consuming, but would be very helpful.

Did you grab the rod/reel on the ground? I picked it up at it was broken. Both the rod and reel. I would have taken it and disposed of it but my hands were full. GPS, camera, walking stick, etc.

What about the Yami? Did you grab that? Do you have plans to? I thought about it, but after sitting in the water for so long I'm sure it would cost too much to get it running again. Plus, I had no way to carry it. If someone had a four wheeler it would be easy to strap to the rack and take it home.

Rock crawler can you post the GPS cords for the one on the way in to the river I would like to make sure I have it right on my unit. When the water is up it makes me pucker every time, I know its there and most of the time if im 10'off line it would make for a very bad day. Thanks Rodney

Thanks for all your hard work and posting these pics. I've been fishing that lake for almost 40 years and have never been up the river, WANTED to, but can't afford to fix my boat if something happened.

depending on where your GPS puck placement is, in relation to whomever(thier boat setup) posts a GPS coordinate.. you could be off 20'... be careful with sharing GPS coord's as you are getting them from another setup different from yours. This is for your own safety and not knocking anyone's equip/etc. If you get a coord... go out there and find that mark and make sure you are deadnutz on, and edit your waypoint if need be. Everyone's will be off a little from the next guy. Just be careful.
example.. my puck is on my console. My stepdad's is on his transom... that right there is a 10' difference if I were to take his GPS coords.

Its hard to tell from the pics but did you see any little variance in the deph in the first 200 yards in front of the mouth of the river like a small depression that goes into the mouth?

Rock Crawler great pic and post and Ronnie your right about puck placement but usually the water is skinny there most of the time and from these pics when the water is up enough to hide this one I will be able to shut down and idle on in to the river at that time I will recheck my waypoint for the big bad boy on the way in. Thanks Rodney

Everyone's will be off a little from the next guy. Just be careful.
example.. my puck is on my console. My stepdad's is on his transom... that right there is a 10' difference if I were to take his GPS coords. True. When I marked the stumps, I actually laid the GPS on top of the stump to get the most accurate reading I could. But we know there is always a little variance.

Thanks for all your hard work and posting these pics. I've been fishing that lake for almost 40 years and have never been up the river, WANTED to, but can't afford to fix my boat if something happened. Even after being out there I'm still not sure I want to risk the run. Hitting one stump can cost thousands of $$$. And from all the skeg trails I saw, I know the only way in is to be on plane at a high rate of speed and drag your motor the whole way.

Thanks for the pics.
Next person to go out should take a hand held GPS (smart phones can do it) and mark or write down all the stump coordinates. Then post them up on the forum so people have access to them.
