We have enough testers for right now but will extend the invitation again later before release. If you PM'd me and have not received the link yet, be patient. You will still receive one within a day or so. Were cleaning up some before releasing again. thanks, Phill I am well on my way to release an iPhone fishing app and would like a couple of folks to beta test some of the modules and report back in. There is no exposure or liability to your phone or you. If the app breaks, just delete it. Installing the app is done by a beta testing site just for this purpose. It is quite simple. You will need to PM me and I will send you a link and directions for installing. I only need about a dozen testers but you will receive the finished app when it comes out for your trouble. the app I want to test is very basic right now. This is the core functions assembled with no whistles or bells. when you open the app and snap a pic: it immediately and automatically records time, location by GPS, weather as reported by NOAA at that time for your location (you can edit / correct it as you take the pics or later at home on a desktop computer)and tags all to the picture. there are also basic fields for recording surface water temp and temp at depth as well as thermocline depth and sundry notes. Right now you have to type the numerals in but the release version will have the "slot machine wheels" to do input with. There are a lot of modules in process but right now I just need to get these assembled parts tested on different phones. My "to do " list is long, but feel free to offer suggestions and I'll add it to the wish list. The final app will dump all the data to a server "in the cloud" that you can get to from your computer at home. there you an edit and add info without having to type on your phone while fishing. Your data will be saved in the form of a database so that you can mine info from your (and others if you opt to share) past experiences in similar weather, temps and light conditions etc. Thanks, Phill Pittman

The development for an iPhone had to be done (for a limited time only, but I am committed now) on the Apple software development kit which will not allow for porting to other (competing) operating systems. But yes, I will follow up the initial release with an Android and also Windows CE version.
time, full weather details, GPS are all auto-populated right now as soon as you snap the shuter.
GPS auto loads Google earth satellite image and/or map overlay and drops marker for location of pic.
We can invoke real time position tracking on google earth map also. The app runs in the background and can transmit location to Google Earth every 2,5, or 30 minutes. This is popular with cross country trekkers/paddlers, sponsored fishermen or anyone that can appreciate being located when needed. I used to do this when sponsors wanted to know where and how far I paddled the yak and how often.
The eventual final release will have bait, water clarity, color and health( condition) of the fish for further database development.
Once deeply populated from many anglers I hope to allow queries that will mine suggestions from the history compiled from many users. It will take a couple of years to fully populate many areas. It will be much quicker on really popular waters. There was a non public guide forum that used to accumulate such data and compile guidelines for their use only.
As much as I hate to admit it, there will even be a Facebook link/button for those that want to share a particular catch with friends online while still on the water.
Tight Lines, Phill

So you have to take a picture first before it records the data? and tracks you location?
Can you turn those features off?

Auto tracking: It is turned off in the module I'm testing right now. The default on tracking is off and must be turned on if you want it on.
The data that is time specific (temp, wind, barometer etc.) auto loads when a photo is snapped only as it is only saved with each photo. Temp, wind etc. changes all day so it collects current data for each pic.
There is a note area for general trip notes. It does not autofill.
Everythin can be edited after it is autofilled.

The next release will be one that will work with Android phones and then Windows mobile or windows CE phones. I'll surely post up when the other oerating systems are working. Thanks for the offer to help, Phill
