The condensation drain pipe for my A/C at home is clogged. What is the best way to clear it? The unit is upstairs and the pipe is about 20 foot long.

First you need to find out where it terminates- most likely a bathroom under the sink. Pull the stop and cover the sink with a towel then go back to the unit and cut the line (if pvc) blow through it with compressed air, co2 and reconnect with 3/4" pvc coupling and pvc cement (glue)

Be careful blowing compressed air from the unit down the pipe to the drain. Mine drains in my sink in my guest bathroom. Blew it out a few years ago and all the gunk inside the pipe ended up all over the guest bathroom. Came out the drain pipe from my sink and all over the vanity and walls.

Sometimes bleach poured in your pan will dissolve the build up if it is not to bad.

I did what you mentioned as per a plumbers advice. Blew the towel right out of the sink and gunk went everywhere.

Should of used a bigger towel. DUH!

I used the compressor in my emergency battery jumper kit, worked like a charm. Since there isn't near as much power as a regular compressor. Some stuff got blown out on the initial hookup. But when I tested the pipe to see if it was still clogged, it was. So I hooked it back up, turned it on, and went outside. Again, some stuff got blown out on the initial blow. So I simply put my hand over the hole, held it there for a few seconds and again, some more stuff got blown out. Repeated this about 5 times, till I could actually hear the compressor and now the line is good to go.

Thanks for the help guys.

Glad I could help, probably saved yourself $95-165 depending on who you use for a/c service

Bleach worked for me. Pour in a cup full every month and it will help.

I have one but only use it in tight spots, the nitrogen tank does a far better job and no little cartridges all over the place, definitly good for a diy homeowners.

Bleach is OK , it kills alge and bacteria growing in the drain line, but when coils are rusting and deteriorating and that debris get in the drain bleach doesn't help, the line has to be flushed.

I always thought of bleach as PM not a fix.
