At academy, there was a 7'5" heavy fast bait casting rod by All Star. I didn't get the model but was wondering if this would make a good surf/jetty rod to fish the first and second guts with.

I also noticed that all the longer spinning rods are only $16 to $30. Are these just heavy rods (thicker graphite) or are they just broken rods waiting to happen. Even online with academy, I can't seem to find a good surf rod in the 9-12 foot range. Any suggestions there (probably need to keep it under 200 if possible). This would be for a 4000 spinning reel or bigger if I need it.

thanks

You do realize that no matter how fast a fish swims it never sweats?
If you eat pasta and anti-pasta, will you still be hungry?

Thanks trickwormdestroyer. I have one all star rod the rest are castaways. I may go with a Duckett (sp?) spinning for the surf. They make a longer heavy spinning rod.

Allstar Rods when made in Houston,Tx was one of the finest rods around. Now there made in CHINA and one of the worst rods around. There heavier and break easy.

I agree with above, while I have yet to break one made in China. I still have a couple of IM-10 rods made in Houston. While sharing the same name, thats all they have in common. Houston rods are my favorite rods still to this day.

I agree!!

I have building many spinning rods on fly blanks ALL STAR AUSTIN(TITANIUM)+extension(i like to fish using artificials with long rods from the bank).
All my ALL STAR blankS was made before SHAKESPEARE start to bee the owner of ALL STAR COMPANY.
I was catching many nice fish with these rods ,never have problems,no broken rod.

You can't compare the ALL STAR rods made in Houston with the ALL STAR rods made now in CHINA.
