I am considering new places such as large ponds and LBJ Grasslands. So if anybody knows of any places we can get 10+ boats on the water without disturbing the regular crowd and each other in the tournament please post. (must be in the dfw area)

Sounds like fun.

Loy Lake and Waterloo are both good (Denison).
Coffee Mill and Crockett also.

30+ acre lakes that get little or no pressure.
Loy and Waterloo are no gas powered engines allowed.

All have great fish.

Is it boats smaller than 14 foot, or up to 14 foot?

I have a 14 foot Alumacraft is why I'm asking.

I also have 8 foot inflatable pontoons so I assume they are legal. hmmm

I don't know what to say about this guy. He came on here and wanted to get some guys to fish together and even started a web site for it but then he dissappeared. I have sent him some emails but nothing has came out of it.

Here is his link again.

I am still here. I am not on here daily but I am still here guys.

The first tournament will be held at the Joe Pool location. The rest are subject to change. This is where we can meet and greet and I will be able to get more information on the other places we can fish.

From there I will see how interested people really are in this.
I am receiving a lot of feedback from people wanting to join but actions speak louder than words.

Depending on the turnout of the Joe Pool tournament I will decide weather or not if I should go forward and add more fishing locations.

I have roughly $300 tied up in equipment right now so I am serious about starting this. Right now I picked the big lakes because I know there is plenty of room there for us & you do not have to have permission to have a tournament on a public lake.

14 ft and under boats are allowed. electric motors are allowed and 5hp gas motors and under are allowed.

(I am new to tournament fishing so I am winging it until we have the first tournament and learn how this should go)

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

I will have styrofoam coolers lined up filled with water, ice & an aerator with a laundry basket submerged so you can put your fish in there until it is your weigh-in time.

Like I said I am new to tournament fishing so I am winging it until we have the first tournament and learn how this should go, i'm sure it will run smoothly.

Count me in for this, 12' jon boat with a 5hp motor.

Also I'm game to go fishing with any of you guys sometime before then. I just got this setup and I've never had a boat before, so I'm still getting the logistics down and figuring out how to use this thing. I normally go out to Grapevine, and I'll probably be there this coming Sunday 9/4 and Monday 9/5.

Question. How do we keep the fish untill the weigh in? Most of these boats do not have livewells, including mine. So that leaves a stringer or a basket? Both of which would likely result in dead or very near dead bass. What if this was done like the yak guys do? A picture with a tape measure and a secret code word on a slip of paper in the photo to prove the date. Total length wins, no dead bass less stress on tourney directors. Come to think of it, I dont catch many fish anyways so that would not be a real concern. Thoughts on this guys?

That is a great idea! As long as everybody has a camera or phone this will work perfectly.

I could have everybody send pictures to a certain email. I will tally up the results. Post results to the website.

The only problem I see right now is how would I pay the winner right then? I could hold on to the money and mail it or send via Pay Pal.

How do you guys feel about this who will be competing in the event? Any suggestions?

The Catfish peeps do about the same.
One person chooses a control item at check in, and any picture needs to have the control item in it. Photographed are weight with the control item.
That way fish get to live another day.

You don't have to have the pictures emailed to you. Have somebody with a lap top at "weigh in" and everybody has to bring a usb cord with their camera if they want their fish to count. Download and tally results on the spot.

I would like to do the Joe Pool tourny but my son and daughter have a nine oclock baseball game. I might come out and see the weigh in and get to meet some of yall for the next one.

25. Hole sitting by or for contestants is not allowed.

What does that mean?

If I am fishing drop off/shelf on a creek channel, out in the middle of the lake, I might need to fish that spot for hours before I can move on.

Lets say you find a bed (more for the spawn) or a good spot you know fish have been there very recently. You cannot have someone hold your spot for you.

does that make sense?

I want to keep this as a boat club.
I have nothing against kayak guys.

If I ever get into kayaking I might change my mind and have a kayak division as well.

October 1st is the new date.

Teal season is still going on.

Yesterday on Clear Lake there were some Teal hunters shooting and scared the [censored] out of us. They were in the timber where we wanted to fish but I did not want to get shot at or interrupt them.

I am ready for October 1st. I have an 8' pond prowler with battery that will be charged full! I'm looking forward to finally having a structured club. Fished Joe Pool today and had a blast with smallies in the hydrilla. These boats are crazy fun when the fishing is good.

Last weekend I saw other people catching them. I just didn't have the luck. All I got was 1 bite. They were there but just not biting that well. We kept seeing them chase shad onto the bank. I think it had something to do with the full moon the night prior.

Have you fished the stumps just north east of Lynn Creek Marina? I thought I was marking a lot of good fish far into the cove, but all I caught were dinks.

We do CPR ( catch, photo and release ) tournies in the Yak world almost exclusively.

Produce a unique document that must be included in the photo and distribute it the morning of the event. Length only is the measure of the day. the entire device must be able to hook to laptop to dump photos.

Good luck with your event, Phill

Rule 24:
24. Underwater cameras or tracking devices may not be used during tournament hours.

Is a fishfinder considered a tracking device?

I am wanting to put a clamp on rudder on my bass buster. Does anyone know where I can get one, or ideas on how to make one?

I saw fish chasing shad up to the bank a couple weeks ago. Bring white colored plastic worms and cast them about a foot on to the bank and then slowly reel your worm back to your boat.

Looks like I might get to make it, ablbeit I will be using a 13'8" alumcaraft and trolling motor. My buddy didn't feel comfy enough on the bass raider.

Hopefully work will not need me smile

For Tomorrow morning's Tournament.

Please arrive by 6:00-6:30 so we can start fishing around 7:00am

Please make sure you bring:
1. Digital Camera or Camera Phone
2. USB cord so the pictures can be uploaded to a laptop for scoring.
3. Measuring device to measure length of fish.

I will be there around 600:-6:30am.
I will setup by the lake by the launch with a folding table.
Once you sign the registration form, pay the tournament dues & receive the code word you are welcome to begin fishing. There will be no Take off time. Just simply Sign, Pay & fish.
At 7:00 if you are not in line, you may not make the tournament.
As soon as I am done with registrations and collecting fees, I will be fishing myself. (Not in the tournament but just for fun)

The tournament will end at 12 noon. You must be in line by 12 noon in order to be scored. I will setup the scoring table around 11:30am. Anytime from 11:30am - 12 noon you may start heading to the scoring table to be scored. 1st and 2nd place prize money will be handed out by no later than 1pm. There will be a free raffle after prize money handed out.

In your photo we must be able to see the fishes body and tail in one photo. (do not take a picture just showing the tail or head and the length of the fish.)
The codeword you receive must also be in the picture.

Remember boats 14 & under can participate. No Gas motors of any size are allowed. Electric motors only. No kayaks are allowed, no tubes are allowed. This is a small boat tournament only. I forgot to mention but I think it is pretty obvious, This will be a Large Mouth Bass tournament. Only Large Mouth Bass will be scored.

***If you are participating and have any questions please ask.

Three boats fishing, Allen took it all with 5 fish.
Had a great time!!!!!
I hope more people decide to get involved, this time not many fish caught, but we had a great time.
Two buster boats, and my 14 ft alumacraft v-boat.
Next time I hope to get my prowler out.

Would be great to get more small boats out.

We fished the entire lake, the creek channel then main lake, arond the dam, and the standing timber.
Had a few hits, but that was it. We were fishing the standing timber across the dam, and Allen caught a nice fish, tho not sure how big it was.

Actually I totally enjoyed the lake, nice quiet and out of the way. we were able to push the boat off the trailer, as well as winch it back on. The Hydrylla growth stymied getting close to the shore, where we saw lots of top water action. We did cast near the action, but nothing.

So how did I like the lake???? Well I was doing my favorite hobby, on the water, with a very good friend, I liked it. I usually do not have much luck with a eastly and northern wind, so I was not surprised at the slow bite. We threw frogs, chatter baits, crank baits, worms, grubs, and spinner baits. I did mark lots of fish around 15 to 17 feet, but seems like the fish had lock jaw.

I am selling my alumacraft, and after realizing we had no problems with two big guys, in 6 inches of water..sure will miss it. It also had the 25 hp evinrude motor, and still had no problems in skinny water. That being said, am looking forward to taking my 10 ft pond prowler out!!!!!

Great time, good guys, great weather...was a blast.

Well I am glad that you enjoyed it. I hope you guys who fished it will spend more time here on this thread and get to know a few more folks. If you did, I am sure you will get more boats to the tourneys. I started this thread to give folks a place to talk about it.

There has been many tourneys on that lake, tube guys kayak guys ...

Agree. I have a 21 ft pontoon, a 16 ft tracker, the 14 ft alumacraft, and the pelican bass raider. I fish quite a bit when work does not have me occupied.

No doubt fishing in the smaller boats is a blast!!! I can and do hit the big lakes, quite a bit, but something about working the smaller boats, and in this case electric motors and occasionally the paddle to fish, just got to get in the catching mode. This is the first time I have only targeted Big Mouth/Black bass, but wow what a blast!!!!
I am gonna try and get my prowler up hickory creek next weekend, via pilot knoll park. Last I heard is the water is low enough, you can see the channel. I also have used the navionics app on my iphone to create a trail.

Hopefully I can get out next weekend and try to get in the creek.

I caught all the fish on Friday in the timber right next to the creek channels using a 6" texas rigged worm. 12# line with a 1/8 oz worm weight.

Here are the pics.
Winning Length was 58"

2 boats competed.
The bite was very slow.
1st Place caught 5 fish with a total of 58".
2nd Place had some bites but no catches.

Next event will be held in November somewhere closer to DFW. Clear Lake was a bit far but was well worth the drive to get on the water and make some new friends.
You guys need to come out to the next tournament.
It was a blast. I promise if you come out once you will be hooked!

If I don't work Saturday, I may fish pilot knoll, and possibly go up hickory creek ..upto old alton bridge if possible.

Friend of mine caught big mouth, crappie, and sandbass a couple weeks ago.

If I go it will be the afternoon since I have to work in the morning.

Where exactly is the walmart pond in waxahachie at? I looked on google maps and I saw a few ponds by a walmart. Could you zoom on the pond in google maps and send me a link? This would be perfect for the next tournament.

The fish should be measured correctly along with the code word but there were no other fish caught, so we all knew before we headed to the launch who won.

Gonna put my pelican on the Medina river this weekend. I hope this approaching front will get them stirred up. River fishing may be the way to go if the wind keeps up like today.

You would think he would have a tourney every two weeks until he got it established.

Also posting on here a lot would be another good way to stir up some interest.

Maybe you should ask everyone what would be a good day to have a tourney and go from there.

Looks like, due to the lack of participation, Brian is canceling tournaments. Sure hate to see this, I fished the one at Clear Lake, and had a blast. Brian is a great guy, to donate so much time, effort and personal money, as well as work full time. His dad also helped out a lot to try and make this a sucess.

This could have been great, and still could be.

Most tournaments are scheduled and set in stone, due to so many outside factors, so trying to schedule something around everyone's schedue would never work.

Brian took the upper hand, and created a schedule, which I know I could not make all of them, but could have made most.

I know this, Most everyone I have met and fished with on TFF are great people, and Brian and his Dad are as good as people get..

Maybe some day we can start all over again, tight lines all.

Yes sir, I'm throwing in the towel.

Ive tried to get this thing rolling for a while now. I cant even get 4 people to show up. Maybe it was the timing with the cool weather approaching and the low lake levels. I'm not really sure. Everybody seems to be interested on here in their posts but when the time comes, action speaks louder than words. All I know is I made 3 new fishing buddies and it was well worth it. Maybe somebody in the future will be able to organize a successful club & have tournaments. I wish the best of luck to whoever it may be.

No disrespect but I think it's short sighted of you to bail out after only one tourney.

I did try to help you by making suggestions here and there, but it's up to you to make friends here. Don't get me wrong this place is tough place to post because of all the egos, but that's just the way it is.

Myself, I am not interested in fishing for money, but there are quite a few who do. All you have to do it drum up some business.

WE should have a spring tourney out at Clear Lake.

It's big and has a lot of fish in it.

Open to all watercraft.

FFM, I was telling you we need to hit up white rock. I went out there for a work event and man it looked fishy.

There is a free boat ramp; and lots of tables and grills if we want to cook something after wards.

I am in, lets pick a date. No need to even wait till spring lets do this thing; then get some traction for spring.

As I said it's fine with me.

But I am going to need for the folks who are going to fish that day to commit here on this thread before I spend any money on this deal.

If not enough folks want to do it I will just spend my time stitching for that Big Bass on my local honey hole.

Haha.

I work usually 2 Saturdays a month. So most any sunday, or some Saturday's. I fished the one tournament at LBJ, and will fish more if I can make them.

I am in as long as I am not working. As for grub...why not have the final list of peeps each bring something. I have two frys that are available.

Don't forget pilot knoll park, leads to hickory creek. Cost if you don't have a pass is $10 and they ha e nice picnic grounds, tables, and a boat ramp. Shore launch will be easy too.

Piloy Knoll is north of 407 on 2499 (33.110164, -97.072105). I just started fishing last spring from the bank and my 21 foot pontoon, and yes we caught all kinds of fish, including Bass. As for this time of year, I can't comment. Water is up to 12 or so feet in some areas, and somewhat protected from wind in lots of spots, that is unless we have crazy gusting winds. Lots of standing timber, structure by shores, and the access hickory creek. One of my fishing buddy's has caught many bass (I have never fished the creek, tho I will hope to fish the creek this weekend. If the stars fall in the right place i might haul my pop up camper to the camp site there and maybe we can launch from that spot for those wanting to head up hickory creek, tho it is a bit o a run, and very shallow in many places. If you want to check it out, tell the gate staff you want a temp pass to drive thru it. Just a thought....

I fished the one Tournament that was put on at LBJ, it was for $$. I lost $25 (Entry Fee and Big Fish) but to be honest, that was trvial in my opinion. The new friends, and great time fishing with peeps who enjoyed the same was worth more.
Would have been nice to win, for the win, not necessarily the $$, but was just fun to participate. That was what Brian was trying to do, put on toruneys for small boat owners, maybe make some $$, but the entry fee didn't break the bank, and to meet new people who like fisning small boats. I have a 21 foot pontoon, and 16 foot Tracker V Bass boat, but really enjoy fishing from small boats as much.

You might draw more interest if you centralize your tournament spots. I'm down in San Antonio and would love to participate but Dallas is just to far to travel.

There is not enough interest in doing this so far but I am still open minded about it.

Let's see what happens when the water warms up and the fishing bug bites.
