Hello
I am mainly a LM fisherman, have never been to Texoma and wanted to give it a shot.
I know i need to catch shad to have success, pretty good at throwing a cast net... where should I try and do this? What are my options if I can’t Catch bait? How deep should I be looking for fish? Swimbaits and Slabs? are there any fish schooling?
What about Sandbass?
Allot of questions I know, its a last minuet trip with some friends and would love some advise from the experts.
Thanks guys

From some of our customers up North:
If you're going to use slabs, the slightly darker gold colors work well 'till the sun is up good. The you would want to switch to a highly reflective silver.

I am not an expert. Have fished Texoma a lot. If you can't get shad, it reallly depends on what part of the lake you are fish that determines what to use. I trolled a lot with deep diving crank baits, usually with some chartruse and orange on them. down rigging, fish above the fish on your eletronics with swim baits and chartruse sassy shads. I have never had a lot of success with slabs on Texoma, but a lot of people do. There are lots of sand bass on Texoma. Stripers and Sand bass should be on the surface some during the day. With sand bass we usually throw something that has a white or chartruse hair on the back hook. Good lUck

The slab and coho bite has been excellent this week...Any color slab will work..Ive been getting them on silver, gold and chartruse and white.. Just really doesnt matter.. It aint rocket science.. find fish and drop a slab on em . they have been super aggressive this week. Throw a small coho under surfacing fish.. They havent been hitting a top water for me but run a coho 6 inches under surface and they will slaughter it

If you're going to catch bait, you'll need a GOOD bait tank to keep them alive in. I just posted a 34 gallon Sunshine tank on the Trade/Swap page.

For shad go just before sunup and go to most marinas and look in 12-17 fow especially around the tires. That lake is covered in shad and it is not hard to catch'em. Keeping them alive is a whole other art. Good luck.
