Just wanted to get an idea/share knowledge of what else is everyone is doing to bake their jigs after applying paint. I made a fixture as seen in the photo to prevent nipples on the head. What do you use?

good idea Bentley. I have not attempted PP yet, but will soon, and probably use a jig similar to this. what is it lined with?
also curious your steps on applying the eyes.

Thanks

Rock-From the info that i have found baking them makes them harder and tougher. The paint doesnt chip off as easy when they are baked.

Ok good... I wont bake mine then.

No really- I know what you meant to say- I just dont want to go to the trouble. I usually lose mine to a brush pile or something before the paint chips off.

I made a curing rack using a 5/16 threaded rod with a metal plate on one end secured by 2 nuts. In the middle I have one pound of 1/2 inch flat washers. On the other end I have another metal plate and a wing nut. I hang my jigs on the rod separated by 5 washers then tighten the wing nut. I flip it over and all the heads are pointing up.

My solution was really lo-tech. I took one of my wife old aluminum roasting pans and poked holes around the top edge to insert hook points. I bent the edges inward a bit so the jigs hang like I want. I only do about 20-30 at a time, but can poke more holes and might get up to 50 or so per load.

p.s. the pan is one of those throw-away aluminum foil looking jobby do's.

Is there really that much of a problem with the "nipples"? Several (many!) of mine come out with nipples, but it doesn't look that different to me than some of the pointier jig heads to begin with. I kinda think it makes them look more pointy like the mouth of a minner. I don't know...

lower your heat and extend the time in oven!!!!! will help stop the drip.

I would agree with you , but then we would both be WRONG !!!!!

Don't put so much powder on and they wont drip. When I powder coat mine I heat the jig just enough so the powder will stick. They are not shiny and rough like sand. I then bake them at 300F for 25 minutes, no drips and shiny.

Never have a problem since I just started over 5 years ago. I count hoe long the jig head in in the flame when I pain and never have any trouble at all. Also don't hang them upside down. I use an alcohol burner to heat my heads.
