I was just looking at some SLater hand tied jigs and some of the stuff I see on here looks very much like his jigs. I know its bound to happen whether or not it was done on purpose. I'm sure no one is trying copy from a 7 time champion and every guy or gal needs a little inspiration sometimes, but what do I know, I don't tie jigs I buy jigs, and don't really care where the idea came from. I'm just rambling cause I can't go fishing.

I copy everything...I have no imagination.

Unless there are patents it's a free market.

Hate to tell you this but most jigs being tied has been tied before by someone else.
There's only so many ways that you can tie one and only so many different materials you can use.

Most of mine I dream up and if they look something like another, well so be it. However there are times I may have a customer call me and ask if I can make some like he has and can't get or find any longer. So they may send me one to see, but usually I don't post their pictures on my web site unless it's as they ordered it. I had a guy almost 2 years back send me 10 jigs that he couldn't buy any more so I got someone to make a mold to make a head something like his were and then tied a bunch of jigs for him and he waiting on me to tie a bunch more for him now. As I understand it the fella they use to get them from quit/retired. At any rate the head is a bit different, but there is only so much you can do with a thread neck kip tail jig.
As for Slater I would know much about his other than some of my customers say they had used his before and they come apart too much. Personally I have never had any of his jigs so can't say anything about them one way or the other.

My skin is very thick, and in case anyone didn't understand I DON"T CARE, I don't tie I buy, so if it looks good to me I don't care who made it first or whatever. Something of this nature happend a while back when some people thought someone stole the Hotdog jig from T-fly and found out that T-fly had the kid making them for him. So if you have been contacted by me then I like your jigs and I'm not done so I hope no one gets offended. By the way crappiehappy Slater ain't even using sickle hooks, so no way I'm buying those, besides I'm spending my coin in TEXAS

I was just Roughing you up a lil Mell.... I did see the slaters jigs at Cabelas yesterday however..... PLENTY of good ole TX boys on here that tye some mighty fine jigs!

My 2 cents worth is for every "name brand" product there is a "generic brand".I tie my own jigs yet my favorite jig was shown to me by a friend of mine.Does it bother him?Nope.JMO

As usual,seems most don't really know what's going on here, just jumping in the middle of street without looking about to get ran over. Go back and read and Comprehend ( that means to understand for those that road the short bus). Everything is explained right there anyway CH I would like to see some more and it wasn't just about the Slater jigs, the thought just came to mine while I was on his site, more about people on this forum and who cares anyway.

I make all my stuff from scratch, and my honest opinion is, if its a good color, were all gonna tie it.
