Seriously? It is that way every year!! Some years it is worse than others. A couple years ago was really bad!!

Quote:
The warmer the temperature the water gets, the less oxygen the water holds, said Melissa Dudley, a pollution biologist with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in Waco.

The number of fish deaths depends on how long the extreme depression of oxygen lasts higher temperatures over a longer period of time mean more dead fish.

The drought conditions also have led to lower lake levels, which means theres less overall oxygen to go around to all the fish, bringing survival of the fittest into play.

The bigger fish are more vulnerable right now. Bigger fish need more oxygen just because of their size, Dudley said.

Thermocline has set in strong.. happens every year on Hubbard end July - first of August.. Cats and Drum usually the first to go... you would think they would swim to "good" water smile

I've been wondering about that, too. Saw 'em all over the lake yesterday.

No doubt JV...when it gets stuffy in the garage I go to the living room. I guess it's natural selection at it's finest

What they said, But I dont know about catfish being the first to go because they can live out of the water for a long time.
plus you have guys baitting with fresh milo. You have to soak the milo first because it exspands when it gets wet. So if the cats or drum eat it it exspands in the gut and kills them.

Yep, see them every year about this time of the year and they accumulated more at wind blown banks. They all seem to be the same size 12 incher kitties too.

Dont forget the carp and buff are usely dead all over the water. Some of that could be because of all the boats on the water too.

Also, there has been no rain to help stir up/put oxygen in the water.
