I have found a 19 foot 1995 Champion DCX Elite that I am thinking about making an offer on..Really clean boat everything looks good and well kept, front carpet could be replaced in a couple of years or so but still looks good, tandem trailer, 200 XRI Merc...didn't see any electronics. Checked the value on it at NADA for the boat, trailer, and motor and he is about $1k to high on the price but I figure he has done that to be able to negotiate back to its full value to try to get what the book says it's worth. It has one flaw and I was wondering if any of you fiberglass repair shop guys out there could tell me how well this flaw can be fixed. It has a vertical gouge about 3 feet in front of the drivers console on the outside of the boat in the gel coat that goes about an 1/8 inch deep, 1/4 inch wide , and 3/4 inch long. The gelcoat is metal flake black back ground with a blue flake. Can this be repaired to where it looks like new. I'm just real peculiar about my rigs and like them in like new condition even if they are old. As most of you know that helps a lot when you are getting ready to sell to buy that next rig.....This one's going to be my stepping stone to a new rig, if I buy it, in 2 to 3 years. popcorn

I would imagine you could fix it it. Get some gelcoat and mix some black gelcoat coloring agent into it. For the fleck you might try going to a hobby shop and getting a similar glitter. Then you clean and prep the area real well. Take a spreader and spread some gelcoat into the gouge. Cover with a plastic bag ie a sandwhich bag taped around the sides so it covers it completely. Let it dry for 2 days. Then take fine grit sand paper and sand it smooth.

Note: You may need to widen the gouge a little bit to get rid of the jagged edges. It spreads much easier and cleaner when the edges are clean.

LOL @.... hobby shop to get the glitter...

Ogles it can be fixed.. the only problem with a boat that old is finding the flake and assure you that the local hobby shop isnt going to have it.. I may have it from one the past boats we have worked on..If not we can get it..

I'll keep that in mind. I did some more checking and this boat may be a contender model, if so he is about $1500 to high of NADA retail for a good boat. I'm in no hurry to buy it so I'll probably just let him sit on it while. If he sells it then so be it. I need to pay off a couple of things any way........

calssic I got the flake to do some hole filling on my 82 champ from hobby lobby, they had a bunch of different sizes and colors. it was about 1/10th what the glass shop up here quoted me for just a little bit.
you have to look extremely close to find where I patched the holes from the old handrail.

I know when you order special flake it runs around $100 a pound and thats the smallest you can get it in.
