i pour up and paint alot of jig heads for me and some friends and the black nickels are starting to break. this can't be strictly from baking the paint, either. i've had several plain lead heads with collars break as well. i used to use the bronze, but i read the nickels are better so i bought 1000 of 'em. i never had one single bronze break. am i doin' something wrong or are these things just low quality? can i take the 500 i have left and trade them in somewhere? oh, and its always the #4.

Think they had an issue with the tempering on some batches of bronze awhile back. I have not had any issues with the black nickel sickles...

I will have a few break on me, but only when i put stress on them from getting caught in brush and pulling them out. They bend and when i bend them back sometimes they will break, but not very often.

I dont use black ones, but I've had reports of them breaking when trying to land a fish. I use red ones, and I've never had one break.

I tried some of the gold ones. I don't know why. They break alot. I went to the black ones and they are not breaking. Never again on the gold.

Blame it on the heat! Everything else is breaking in it.

i thought it was the paint baking that was doing it. i'm thinking now that it may just be a bad lot of hooks. my best friends cousin is friends with the owner of barlows and used to work there, and he said to take 'em up there and they'll swap for whatever hooks i need. i'll just go back to the bronze

The black nickles are proving to be more brittle for me. After I use up all I've got it's back to bronze. The BN's seem a little sharper but not enough to justify the extra cost and brittleness.

When they had their first issue with bad tempering/heat treat it was the bronze ones and I had a lot break even just tying them. So guess we need to lay off the black until they fix it. Thankfully I have a lot of black that are good and before this started. It's a real pay when they do this and it's because they are made in china and when the heat treat is bad they break!

One thing about it is if they had a bad batch it will be way more than 1000 that are bad.

It don't matter where you buy them, all the Matsuo come from the same factory. I've had a few #1's break, but not enough for me to stop using them. By the way, Grandpa Bob's sell Matsuo hooks cheaper than Capt. Hooks.
