Thanks for your service, I love that family members can benefit from another's service. I have a few vets in the family, I wish I had known about this when I started. Wreck'Em Tech! What is she gonna study out there?

Unless things have changed, I thought the only way you could pass the hazel wood act to your children was if you were 100% disabled or was killed in combat.
Are you saying that you only need to be a Texas Veteran to pass it to your children?

if you read the link originally posted...
Transferability of Benefits (Legacy Program)
Eligible Veterans may assign unused hours of exemption eligibility to a child under certain conditions. To be eligible, the child must:
Be a Texas resident, Be the biological child, stepchild, adopted child, or claimed as a dependent in the current or previous tax year, Be 25 years or younger on the first day of the semester or term for which the exemption is claimed (unless granted an extension due to a qualifying illness or debilitating condition), and Make satisfactory academic progress in a degree, certificate, or continuing education program as determined by the institution. If a child to whom hours have been delegated fails to use all of the assigned hours, a veteran may re-assign the unused hours that are available to another dependent child.

I did not read the link…I separated a few years ago and set through many different benefit briefings. I remember this question being specifically asked. I do not remember the exact answer but I know that there was some eligibility requirements that I did not meet.
According to this link, the eligibility requirements are simple. This is good to know. I guess I was given some bad information when I got out or things changed.
Thanks

This act passed in 2009. Your child will get a college education if you did the Hazlewood Act. I got lucky I became a federal agent 17 years ago. I never went to college. Believe me this ACT does work my daughter is going to Texas Tech already. so you are not disabled and still qualify, i got out in 91 so my kid that is going to college next fall will be allowed to use this act

I forgot to mention what it comes out to. My daughter gets a $80,000.00 four year education for about $700.00. I was so happy $700?? That's great, but what about room and board?
