Fathers Day, the wife and her family decide to go to Lake COoper for a day in the sun smile We had a blast, and I was able to fish for a few hours by myself. It is a neat lake, but not worth my time to go back(fork is same distance). We get home, and I am tired and worn out. I take my graphs off and just put them in my compartment(which I rarely ever do)... well, i forget about them after I pass out watching tv... wake up the next morning and go out and uncover the boat... I notice one side of the cover is loose and flapping in the wind, and I just figured the wind knocked the bungie straps loose. Wrong.. I hit the alarm button to turn it off and nothing... I find the siren wires have been pulled loose, and I also find my graphs are missing along with wires and transducer(the big one on the back!). I called the police and they came out and took a report. I called state farm and told them what I had( had just upgraded to a used and bigger unit on the dash). I had my dream graph for a week mad (1197si). I had a Very good deal from a broke family member in springtown and had the reciept and box with all the paperwork bang
Well the officer said that our neighborhood has been ridden with petty theft in the last couple months very badly. He said he's been riding a bicycle in the area at night trying to catch them smile I told him to sit on our porch whenever he wants! LOL!
Karen at State Farm called in the claim and within 10 mnutes I had a lady from Houston on the phone. She took all the info and addded up the value, added the sales tax.. and cut me a check minus my $250 deductable. (I had the check the next day.....)
At this point she asks if she can assist me anymore and we got to talking about the boat and I told her about the engine knocking and shutting down. For some reason she told me to have the mechanic check it out for vandalism since it was the first time out after the theft. Sure enough, Matt found where they morons cut my transducer wire in the back... they had sliced into a fuel line on the starboard tank!!! The inspector went to inspect the damaged #1 piston and cylinder on 7/6/11. I got the next day and said the check was on the way for a new powerhead and labor. They also paid for the towing!

I am very thankful that all I had to make was one phone call, and all this mess was taken care of! I had no runabouts or frustrations with the claims process!! Karen took excellent care of this from the start, and Vickie in claims took over and made this a very hassle free experience. I am very pleased with my current State Farm agent and believe the agent really sets the tone from the start of the process (with whatever company you choose).

Thank you very much Mrs Karen and Mrs Vickie!!! I owe you two a big hug and mucho thanks!

Progressive will not cover engine infestation unless you have a separate cover for the cowling. If cover is attached (Part of) the boat cover Pregressive will not cover damage from insects (mud dobbers) or rodent chewing lines and wires.

I wonder what other tricky loopholes are out there.

Sounds like Ronnie needs to get a new alarm ! How did they get the cover off and find the wires to the alarm and unplug it without the motion sensors triggering the alarm ?

The alarm is fine, Benny. I turn the motion sensor off when I arm it, to keep from waking the neighbors if a cat were to jump in it- or the kids down the street come home with thier stereo up and the bass thumping. It was a courtesy to the neighbors, but I should have kept the motion sensor on. There is a flashing LED on my dash, which I though would deter theft-- but instead it made it visible that there was an alarm. The siren is under the console, all they did was pull the wires loose. I will be moving the siren to a hidden location. the policeman said the thief most likely crawled up under the cover and hid while doing his thievery. Like I said, I didnt have the pager with me- as I passed out in the living room. it was in the back bedroom where I sleep before tourneys(to keep from waking son and wife at 3am). The police said it has to be someone local that has been watching. We arent the only ones to get hit, some friends over off the hwy in Royce City (by the sonic) had thier car broken into and they stole a bunch of stuff)> they caught them, and they were two kids- 15 and 16 years old !!! They said the petty thefts have been crazy the last month in this area as a whole. I am not able to bring my boat home now, as I am fearful of someone jacking my stuff! It's one of those "wont ever happen to me, because I took precautions" kinda deals! I hate this area, and want to move back to the midcities area once school is done.

Ronnie don't get to comfortable with State Farm, Karen or anyone else. I have been with State Farm since 1985 at least having homes, automobiles, personal liability, and boats in various states. I have never had a claim on a boat until 3 yrs ago when as expected I managed to hit a stump in Fork that damaged my hull. Lake Fork fiberglass repaired the damage on my 1993 Champion and the cost was under $2,000 - first claim ever on my boat. Last Nov I got a new 2009 Ranger and in April ran over a stump in Fork. Estimate $3,300 but LFF installed a gator hull for $2,500 and I expect no future hull damage. State Farm threatens to cancel if I have another claim. During all these years....only 2 claims on house from storms, a couple of minor auto accidents not our fault, and no boat claims until the ones mentioned. Insurance is about making money not about covering the clients so don't get too excited about State Farm.

You're not supposed to actually use your insurance… Just pay them money.

Btw I have a funny state farm story. So I lived in the Houston, up 59 area for Katrina, Rita, and Ike. Lived in flood plains a couple times (I was in college so we moved all the time) The whole time I had renters insurance.
Get better job, start traveling, and rent a brick house, in corpus. Not even in a 500 year storm surge area. And they drop me, because I’m too close to the coast. Never mind I’ve been through 2 ˝ hurricanes -Katrina was basically high end tropical storm. Where I was- (and never mind that State Farm does the home ownership on the house)
Also, Karen or whoever may be able to work the state farm system, but it is the underwriters who decide who to drop, not the agent…

I've had State Farm for 28 years and have never had an issue with them resolving a claim.
