just wondering what the best knot is for mono line. i currently use a cinch knot, but wonder if there is anything better.

does anyone use a swivel? i grew up using one and since i have one pole right now, i do like how much quicker it can be when changing out lures or hooks.

thanks!

I use the improved clinch because it retains most of the line strength. I like a minimal amount of stuff attached to the line or lure that might be distracting, so I rarely use a snap swivel, but still use the improved clinch on it.

out of laziness I usually tie the improved clinch, but when I know I need ever ounce of knot strength, it's always a palomar knot.

If you want a knot that is stronger that the line go with the Double Heiliger Knot, aka the Double San Diego Jam Knot.

Improved Clinch is a good, simple, fast knot. However, I've been using a modified version of the Uni Knot lately for Mono, FC, and braid and have been loving it. Start by wrapping the line twice around eye of the hook then finish the Uni Knot as usual with 5 wraps for Mono and FC and 8-10 for braid.

As for the swivel... I'll use one if I'm fishing an inline spinner (which isn't often). I'll use just a Duo Lock snap for crankbaits (no swivel though). Other than that, I tie directly to my lures.

The Palamar is probably your best bet, but you need to ensure you raise the loop over the knot as you are tightning it done.
