Going to be in a 22' cc boat most the time. Normal fisherman, not a guide. Mostly hybrid and catfishing.

What are the must haves for a tank, aeration, blue inside, certain filter, etc?

What products need to be bought to go along with the tank?

Buy a greyline/sunshine 15-30 gallon. The bigger the tank the more baits it will hold.

I say buy a sunshine/greyline not because I'm a bait tank snob.....its just they are the best all-in-one bait tank made around here! They come with all you need "air, filter, insulation". I don't think you need blue insides.....but it doesn't hurt. My uncle customized his by leaving the sides blue and painting the bottom white. It makes it easier to see the baits and see how dirty the water is. Just my .02$

Most of my trips are after work so I'm not out there all day. I try to catch 50-60 baits. A 30 gallon is perfect for that.

I have a 30 gal and it seems to be the perfect size for a weekend fisherman. Another huge advantage to the sunshine/greyline tanks is the fact that if you ever need any parts or service you can call the guy that actually makes them and he will have you what you need the next day.

I have a Sunshine 17 gal. expensive , but well worth it. Their home page say's up to 85+ 3 1/2" baits. System came complete, all I added was a timer for around $20 so I could run it full time or off and on.

It seems that the bait are actually "livelier" after being in the salt water for a while.

The web site has allot of good info and tips too. I looked at the ones at BPS and Cabelas, but went Sunshine/Grayline because of all the positive comments by guides, who depend on them for part of their living.

I have a 43g sunshine and it is awesome. Make sure you read about all the things to do about bait tanks. There is a page on sunshine bait about care. Once you get it all down it is great.

The gene pool could use a little chlorine.

As far as size goes, I say as big as you can carry. Sometimes you may want to carry more bait. And for those times that you don't need to carry alot of bait, just don't fill it up all the way.

Sometimes with some things, it's nice to have it and not need it rather than to need it and not have it.

Mine

The link below is similar to mine, The wife said I paid more like $25-$30. I know it works great. If the well is full I run continuous, 20 or so shad I run on the timer.

are you adding a timer so you don't drain the battery as quickly?

I am a weekend fisherman with a 22' CC and I am now running a 25 gallon Grayline tank.

I had a 43 gallon and it worked great...I downsized since I did not need that much tank or weight on the boat. I still have my 50 gallon Grayline tank if I want to go big to hold the big gizzards for tourney fishing.

I use the timer to save on battery.

I use lake water, salt and since salty water likes to foam, I also use an anti foam agent.

Rock salt and foam off. Those two are must haves. Maybe a chlorine remover if your filling with city water.

Shad keeper, salt and foam off. But you can get away with just salt if you change half the water every hour or two.
