Hey yall,

So I ended working an hour late today (thursday being my usual fishing day), which meant I had only an hour and a half to fish at my usual spot.

I wanted to build more confidence in hard plastics, so I cast in this lipless crankbait. Its cheap lure that I believe I bought from a $5 "pond lure" package (topwaters, swimbaits, other crankbaits). After about 20 mins of searching and casting, I ended up hooking and landing a nice 1.5-2.0 lb bass:

After I took the picture above, she makes a sudden shake that resulted in me losing my grip and dropping her to the ground. I immediately pick her back up, unhook her, pet her on the head and release her back.

But I noticed that the back treble hook of my lure was gone along with the snap-ring. Im wondering, "What happened to it?". But then I said, "Its a cheaply made lure, what are you gonna do?":

[img:left][/img]

I didnt have any treble hooks and snap-rings in my tackle box. So I decided to continue on without the rear treble hook. However, I felt something weird on my left hand. A bit of pain, but not sure. So I check out my hand and see this and go, "OOPS...":

Ive poked myself with hooks dozens of times, but never had one go this deep. I felt little pain, and kept my cool. I noticed that the point barely stick out of the skin, but the barb wasnt. I was also flexing my fingers to make sure I didnt actually go through the knuckle joint. Luckily, my fingers flexed fine.

So I pull out the wire cutters, cut off the other 2 hooks to make it flush. Then I pushed the hook in until the barb exposed itself on the other side. Again, I felt little pain during this.
Then I cut off the barbed point and proceeded to slip out the hook (yay...)

Looks painful. Glad you didn't have to go to the Dr.

You take a shoe string or something like that, Wrap it around the bend of the hook, push the eye of the hook down towards the skin causing the barb to release. Then give it a sharp pull and hook is free.
