Lake Grapevine Fishing Guide Report - 6/8/11

James brought his dad and buddy Rick out to Grapevine for a full-day instructional catfishing trip. We started off the morning fishing some shallow water patterns for blue cats picking up a few at each set up along with several sandbass and a drum. About 11:00 we changed tactics and broke out the channel cat rods for some non-stop catching. At one point I couldn't keep 3 rods baited and in the water before someone pulled in another fish or missed one needing more bait. After a couple of hours of channel catfishing we rigged up for some more blue cat action. We then did a little drft fishing to wrap up the trip. The winds were up a a bit, but we were still able to catch several more nice fish. We used fresh shad with Dead Red Blood Spray to catch all of the blues and a few of the channel cats. The rest of the channel cats were caught on Sudden Impact and Secret 7 from Team Catfish. The fish did show a big preferrence for the Secret 7 this time. Totals for the day were 42 catfish, 3 sandbass and a small drum. They also released quite a few undersized channel cats. Always a pleasure sharing the boat with great folks and great anglers. Here is a photo from their guided fishing trip on Lake Grapevine.

Thanks Bobby for the great trip. Anyone looking to learn about patterning and catching cats should give Bobby a holler. He'll definitely put you on the fish and takes care of everything. My dad loved his "Cadillac" fishing trip, and Rick and I should be able to tear em up our next time out (if we can stop wiffing our hooksets).

Thanks again Bobby!

Glad you guys had a great time. Your dad was a bit spoiled by the end of the trip. He had a hard time handing the rod off at first to get his fish taken off and get some fresh bait. By the half-way mark he was quite used to it. Good luck out there and be sure to post some pictures. Thanks again fellas!

Lake Lewisville Fishing Guide Report - 6/10/11

Phil and Suzanne joined me for a half-day channel cat trip on Lake Lewisville. I barely had a chance to get two rods in the water before the fish started coming in the boat. The first 20 minutes were fast and furious with several doubles and even a triple! Then the bite just died. We made several moves picking up a few fish at each stop. The last spot proved to be the one we were looking for. They finished up their 50 fish limit of channel cats and one blue in just under 5 hours. Suzanne lost a really nice blue that would have pushed the 10 lb mark. The #6 trebble hook just didn't find anything solid and managed to pull loose about 10 feet from the boat. All fish were caught on Secret 7 Dip Bait and Sudden Impact from Team Catfish using Carolina rigs. The magic depth was 1-10 feet deep. Here are a couple of photos from Friday's trip.

Lake Lewisville Catfishing Report - 6/11/11

I had repeat customers, Eddie and his wife Marcy in the boat with me this morning. We mixed things up a bit and did a half-day instructional trip looking for both blues and channel cats. We started out with a shallow water pattern that's been producing a few blues. They boated several nice fish from this spot including Marcy's big fish of the day! The sandbass moved in and our baits didn't stand a chance. Moved out to some deeper water and set up on the end of a deeper point covering water that's 20-25 feet deep and marking quite a few fish. Eddie quickly hooked up with a nice box fish before I had 4 rods in the water. They caught several more nice blues before reaching the half-way mark in the trip.

We then switched over to my channel cat gear and broke out the dip bait and punch bait. Had to keep moving to stay on the fish and never really found the good concentration of active channel cats we were looking for. 2-1/2 hours isn't a very long time to target and locate each species before moving on to the next. Final count was a mix of 30 blues and channel cats along with 4 deep-hooked sandbass. The fish today were caught on fresh shad with Dead Red Blood Spray and Secret 7 dip bait and Sudden Impact catfish bait.

Lake Lewisville Catfish Guide Report - 6/13/11

I took our daughter Abby out for her first fishing trip of her summer vacation. She got off to a quick starting landing a small bass from the boat ramp before I was was even able to get the boat in the water. We hit a couple of areas and caught between 40 and 50 sandbass and small hybrids while schooling on top. We caught all of those on Mice lures from "No Geese". Abby lost her pink one and set me on a mission to get her a replacement. Next up was to scout some areas out for channel some cats. Hit some areas with brush, rocks, stumps, grass and deeper ledges between 2 and 20 feet deep. All produced fish. We had 47 on the clicker in about 4 hours keeping 12 deep-hooked fish for the freezer. Fish were caught using Secret 7 dip bait and Sudden Impact from Team Catfish on both corks and Carolina rigs. Lots of fun and great times with my princess! Yes the pink is just for her.

Had to fight the winds this morning. Tough day and only ended up with 23 channel cats in the box. Put back about as many undersized fish as well.

Lake Lewisville Fishing Guide Report - 6/17/11

Star, Karen and Greg joined me Friday morning for a half-day channel cat trip on Lewisville. The winds were tough and limited the areas we could fish. We got out of the rough stuff, but the winds still put it to us. Got the anchors set, a few lines out and the BIG box anchor started to slide! Made a short move and tied up to something a bit more solid and steadily started putting some fish in the box and throwing back even more undersized fish. Set up several more times with each spot only producing a few fish. It was a hard 5 hours of fishing and only had 23 keepers to show for our effort. The bite was really light and difficult to detect in the wind at times. All fish were caught on Secret 7 and Sudden Impact from Team Catfish. Fish were caught on both Carolina rigs and corks 2 to 20 feet deep. Still have plenty of dates open for summer channel cat or blue cat trips on either Lewisville or Grapevine.

Lake Lewisville Fishing Guide Report

Well it seems like we've jumped right into summer time patterns on Lake Lewisville. I took our son Trip out to do some scouting on Wednesday (6/22/11). The channel cat bite was a bit on the slow side. We did find some nice eating size blues that were willing to cooperate though. We also got into a really good sandbass bite and caught well over 100 fish in just a few hours slabbing and on topwater.

Thursday (6/23/11):
Customers finished up a mix of 36 blues and channel cats in 4 hours.

Friday (6/24/11):
44 blues in a 5 hour trip.

Saturday (6/25/11):
43 blues in a 5 hour trip. It was a bit windy this morning, but the fish were biting.

I'll get some photos and complete reports posted after I get a chance to download all of the pics from my camera. Taking the day off tomorrow to celebrate 12 wonderful years with my lovely wife Kelly. Don't know what I'd do without her.

Lake Lewisville Fishing Report - 6/23/11

Repeat customers Chris Sr. and his son Chris Jr. came out to fish with me for a third time Thursday morning. We started off hitting the channel cats. The bite was really good, but way too many undersized fish. Had some sandbass come up on top for a few minutes and decided to give that a try. After catching several smaller sandies the schools dissapeared. Next on the agenda was to target some summer time blues. We located some fish and busted up bait on the fish finder. Got set up, baited rods in the water and the catching soon began. The guys kept up a steady pace for the remainder of the trip filling the box with eating size blues in the 1-9 lb range. They finished up with a mix of 36 blues and channel cats. The channel cats were caught on Secret 7 dip bait and Sudden Impact Catfish Bait from Team Catfish. The blues were caught using fresh shad with Dead Red Blood Spray. Here are a couple of pics from Thursday's trip.

Lake Lewisville Fishing Guide Report - 6/24/11

Tom and Ben joined me for a 5-hour blue cat trip on Lake Lewisville. Couldn't ask for a more beautiful morning on the lake. The winds were calm and not much boat traffic either. I made bait in two throws of the Bait Buster, watched a gorgeous sunrise, picked the guys up at the dock and headed out to see what the day would bring. We got set up right where we left them biting the day before. The blues were still there and willing to bite. The guys quickly picked up on fishing with circle hooks and hardly missed any fish. We hit the 5 hour mark and headed back to the dock with some nice fish in the box. Ben had big fish honors with a 7 lb blue, and Tom insisted on taking home the most fish award for the day. Final count was 44 blue cats all receiving an invitation to a neighborhood fish fry. All fish were caught using fresh shad with Dead Red Blood Spray.
